Hi everyone, glad to be on these boards.

I've recently downloaded Orulex, which is definitely a great addon. I am having trouble though, figuring out how to actually configure certain planets and moons the way I want them to be.

I have virtually no understanding of the included Configuration and World Studio programs, and the included manuals do little to explain what I want.

I just want to make minor changes, for example I don't care to have 3D meshes for Diemos, Phobos, and most other irregular moons and asteroids. They are already modled to be 3D, so I'm wondering how to make it so that the 3D meshes won't be included for those type of worlds.

I was also wondering why the "surfaces" of planets such as Saturn have very spikey surface meshes. Likewise, the Cape Canaveral area has some weird cliffs in the area, and part of the nearby ocean looks like a tsuinami. So I was wondering what's the simplest way to just flatten some unwanted hills.

Well, thanks!

Not at all. Orulex is a gread addon and, although still beta and AFAIK not developed anymore, it does the job very well. Lexx, your problem (I'm guessing here) is probably caused by the use of Word Studio.

World Studio AFAIK creates random terrain. You should've downloaded pre-made heightmaps, available at the Orulex main page. Also, note that there's no embedded colision detection, so it's possible to fly thru mountains without any problem.

Thanks.

I actually downloaded some collision addon which makes the mountains collidable. As for the mountains being random, I did not know that, I will have to get some hight maps.

Still though, what if I don't want hight maps for some worlds, and just want to remove the 3D meshes from them altogether? For example, keeping the mountainous terrain on Venus, while having Phobos without the extra terrain overlay.

Just remove the file 'Meshes\Phobos.msh', but remember to make a backup, just in case.

That would remove the entire phobos mesh. He just wants to deactivate orulex for that body.

Yes, precisely. I've found that Orulex landscapes on small, already rocky worlds such as Phobos look pretty silly (they don't blend well). So I just want to deactivate the Orulex for those specific worlds, not the entire meshes.

Sorry, I though you meant you wanted to remove the meshes...

There is an Orulex config file for every planetary body somewhere in either the orulex directory or the config directory. delete the files for the bodies you don't want any Orulex, and that's it.

Easy - open config/terrain/planet in question.cfg, with notepad or something, and set altlimit to -1000000. That will prevent the Orulex from engaging altogether on the said planet.

Bad idea. This will revert the said planet into random generation mode. Minding the completion status of Orulex, it's likely to look worse than better after that.

Orulex generates random terrain for planets. It should not quite work on gas giants, as there are no surface there. So, the math breaks up.

As i said above, Orulex does random terrain generation, unless asked otherwise.
In case of Earth, it means putting a global heightmap on the planet - telling it to use real data.
The heightmaps links are available on OH download page. Just download, and put into the corresponding folder.
