Without a doubt, the original Solaris by Tarkovsky, the single most boring film ever made in any genre. 165 minutes and nothing at all happens! Nothing interesting, anyway.

2001 is slow-paced in the middle but I think it's still fascinating and extremely daring. Who else but Kubrik would put a three-minute "entreácte" with a blank screen and weird music? I think 2001 is a triumph of minimalism.

Those were early days... the narrations and music were not intended to be there by the filmmaker Melies, he was just creating a funny sci-fi parody of Jules Verne.
Well, he got some stuff right!
1 - a president had to make an announcement to get the ball rolling.
2 - a capsule was used (but not from a cannon!)
3 - many sub-contractors were used to build the capsule and its parts.
4 - astronauts toured the facilities where the capsule was being made.
5 - a whole industry went up in the town to make it happen.
6 - the travelers were sent off with fanfare.
7 - there was an earthrise.
8 - water landing
9 - sealed capsule
10 - taken to shore by an oceangoing vessel.
11 - parades and a hero's welcome home.
12 - scientists (but geologists, not astronomers) were sent in real life

I think 2001 is quite slow paced (with exceptions). That doesn't make it a bad movie. Its pace contributes to the whole art of this masterpiece, though!

Space travel in general is twenty minuets of excitment spread around 5 days of boardom. So "real" space movies should be a little slow at some points. Thats why I like 2001, it takes forever to do anything.
