I was thinking the other day. There are many clubs at my school that kids have formed, especialy centered around video games. So I was thinking of making an Orbiter club. Basically, it would be familiarizing people with the different aspects of Orbiter. Launch, reundevous, interplanetry travel, landing, all that. Of course, most kids in my school would probably join, get upset when going straight up wouldn't get them into orbit, and pick on me for making them play an "impossible game."

Sounds like a good and admirable idea to me, mate. As an ex-teacher I definitely say go for it! You are probably right about getting lots come and drop out when they can't fire missiles, but I'm sure you will get a good little core of people that could really get something out of this. Plus it is a relatively simple way to explore and explain relatively advanced physics, so great for a school. I reckon you will have no problem finding a teacher willing to support this club too, and get involved!

good luck with this.

In the Orbiter workshops I had in 2006, an 8 year old kid reached orbit and was on national TV. [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2745"]Orbiter on TV[/ame]
And a 9 year old kid landed a DGIII on the moon, Brighton Beach pad, very softly.

So if they say it is an impossible game, then they should be remarked that younger kids did it, so their egos make them learn Orbiter.

But if they consider it just plain boring, that's a different thing. Some people just like simple entertainment like Mario Bros...

If the club becomes a group of friends, with regular missions and assignments, you could do very interesting things.

For example, set a price for every ship, and hiring of a pilot. Set a mission reward for every mission that compensates the costs of hiring. If you accomplish mission and go back to base, you earn reward minus hiring, if you lose, you pay for the ship.

Missions could be for example to build a space station. Everyone will be given a module and let's say Johnny brought the first module. Then Mike will have to take that scenario, add the ship and the payload and should add another module, and so on.

Or you could have rescue missions, using DGIV for people who had failed.

You may need to create a standard installation for your club, so everyone have the proper addons to play the mission.

It sounds good, but the problem: I'm a nerd, and I don't think non-nerds will play Orbiter.

ar81, that sounds like a WONDERFUL idea. Or, if a version of mulitplayer could come out, they could all play together, and REALLY feel a sense of...urgency (and with a small set of people, time acceleration could be done by a central computer. With just 5 or so people, it would'nt be that hard to ask "hey, wanna time accelerate?")

I'd love to join it if my school had it. Tho I doubt anyone would, it would be fun to do even on Orbiter Forum.

Like that scenario idea. Someone launches a module into orbit for a space station. Then he posts a scenario with a rocket all set, and ONE person downloads it, attaches it, then so on and so fourth....i'd love to do something like that.

NERD!?!, how'd you get here we are all capitans of our football teams and are extreamly popular! Lol but your idea sounds cool, try it see what happens.

Just made 4 copies of this poster. I'm going to plave them at places in the school that a lot of people pass by each day, to maximize the chance of finding someone interested in it.

Make sure you receive the proper permission from your school's administration or whatnot before you post them. That will ensure that they are not taken down prematurely. You may also need to talk to someone concerning starting an organization. I know how it works in here college (SGA approval and all that), but I have to imagine it's different in high school.

Yes, first thing Monday morning I will talk to the office and get permission from the Computer Lab teacher

The flyer looks good, but I guess you would want to put contact info in there.

If you are successful with your Orbiter Club, you might be able to get the creation of certain addons approved as a school project.
