So, I bought an Incipio Capture case for my Surface Pro 3 tablet from Amazon. It comes in two parts, a plastic inner shell, and rubbery outer skin. The plastic shell includes cut outs for all the ports and buttons, the skin contains "doors" and its own buttons (think the button pad on a TV remote) to access what's beneath via the cutouts. The problem is the hole in the inner shell for the power button is about 1 millimeter off to where it's constantly putting pressure on the button and thus rendering the tablet unusable when in the case. I had Amazon send me a second one thinking maybe just the first was bad, but they're identical. So now I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I think I could use a rotary tool to sand down the side of the hole and it wouldn't put undue pressure on the button, but I don't know if the full case would work, and I'd be stuck with it. Or I could just return both and get my money back. Any opinions? Right now I'm sitting on the razor's edge between both options.

Hey Zaknikitelman. Modification should void any warranty and thus the possibility of return for refund. IMO you should just return it, explaining the problem. They may be able to correct the problem after consultation with their supplier.

Take the tablet with you to demonstrate, and also to fit it properly for a replacement.

Yes, he did. But trying twice might indicate to try a more direct form of service and also support a perhaps smaller dealer in his own community. A cautionary tale for all of us who look to online services for our products.

What good would showing it to them do? Especially to a smaller dealer (which don't exist for this BTW).

Regardless, my choice seems to be return both and get a refund, or try to make a minor modification and risk being out $40.

Take a picture showing the problem. Return the item and post a review indicating the issue. You may hear from the seller, at least you will be providing useful information to other buyers.

I also have a Surface Pro 3 and have used this case for years: ProCase Surface Pro 3 I love it, and my Surface Pro 3 is still going strong.

I would return them. It seems like a serious manufacturer issue and they shouldn't get to keep your money. Go to a competitor.

Except there's no other case out there for the Surface Pro 3 that has the rotating handle in the rear.

I weighed the pros and cons and the cost, and went with the Dremel. I was able to get the plastic ground down and so far it's working fine. I will be calling Amazon in the next few days, though I A. don't expect anything in return, and B. don't expect anything to change since this is an accessory for the previous model of tablet. But thanks for weighing in!
