"Who's really moderating?"

Dan, a well liked student intern at a local institution of higher learning. He majors in computer science because he
hated organic chemistry. He's a student assistant in the campus computer lab. He's well like by Professors and peers alike.
If Dan had a flaw it was his overconfidence.

While exploring the latest and greatest graphic experiences he finds a game which he just can't put down. For the first time in a long
time he wants to participate in something new. He joins the forum.

But for reasons beyond him he's unable to make a connection. Push comes to shove and he's banned. A little skirmish takes place in
cyberspace. As a prank a talented forum game programmer releases a modestly intelligent AI gift for Dan.
In the course of persecuting Dan, the "virus" learns of mankind's fear of Y2K. After Dan is broke and penilless, and a fugitive of the state...

It decides to play a prank on man.

A good basic idea, which could be developed into an excellent cyber-thriller.

You have to think of another virus scare - Y2K is 11 years out of date. I suggest the Stuxnet worm as a real and very scary threat

If you want to see what a really savage and unmoderated forum looks like, go to

In theory this is the public face of Anonymous, the hacktivist group. But it is really a playground for passive-aggressive nerds who are there to troll and flame each other.

Lastly, if you develop a screenplay, be careful where you discuss it - there are many plagiarists out there in the big world, though I think the O-F users are a good bunch who would never rip off someone's idea. But forums for writers are notorious for such ripoffs.

Slightly more sophisticated than B4, Data's brother. Just enough learning ability to "step" outside and expand upon its programmer's instructions. The resulting mayhem doesn't have to be catastrophic. Out of the chaos Dan and parties connected with the mischief are brought up on charges. Nothing serious but enough to warn the audience of the "dangers lurking in cyberspace."

Thank you for the warning about plagiarism. How about an open-source screen play. WE can develop it and use the proceeds to support Orbiter-Forum.

I vote that we give the film an R rating and cast Angelina Jolie for one,

Excellent idea to have people collaborate. Regretfully I have to decline because I'm already up to my neck in writing projects, scripts, etc.

"Proceeds" are likely to be imaginary, think of it as a fun project rather than a moneymaker.

First stop: outline - a three or four page synopsis of the story with enough detail to be able to follow it, but not too much.
