The X-Wings flying low over still water are a good idea, looks nice and a bit 'unusual' (we're more used to see them buzzing around Imperial Star Destroyers).

I guess it's from the bookish side of me. Z-95 were much better for atmospheric ops. Not as capable as the X-wings, though. So there's that...

One thing I can count on is going to be the overuse of lens flares. I may make a count of them (if I can count that high). I dig it for "dramatic" shots, but IRL lens flares are indicative of a poor quality lens.

The thing with ST v SW. Trek had a fantastic run with social commentary mixed with a heavy infusion of campy action. The franchise is astounding, stretching across decades. So they could do a lot with it. Sometimes not very well, but they had a shot.

Star Wars is supposed to be campy. A high tech (?) retelling of Kurosawa movie, which was pretty campy to start with.

Trek can be gritty with injected humor, SW can be funny but can't do gritty very well. At least on screen (Empire Strikes Back is the critical favorite and the exception to this). Some of the books were fan-freaking-tastic, but they wouldn't translate over to the screen well at all.

You watched that one often enough to remember the sound pod racers make? My condolences...

As a musician who plays mostly by ear, I can pick out subtle differences and similarities in sounds that most would miss.

Having said that..... yes. *hangs head* I have watched it often enough to remember it.

From what I've read in a few articles, the upcoming movies do not follow any of the timelines laid out in the post-Episode VI books. Some are furious and taking out their anger on forums because the planned story lines of the upcoming movies will basically make all of the books non-canon.

2143 Swiss Army's Lightsaber.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the new trilogy. Then again, I also enjoyed Episode III.

Before the prequel trilogy any news of Star Wars movies made us all giddy with joy and anticipation.

Until we saw them.

Now we are all jaded and expecting the worst. Thanks, Lucas. And thanks, Disney, for picking my least favorite moviemaker to do this: Jar Jar Abrams.

Ok, now I saw the right trailer...

We're back on Tatooine? Seriously? are there no other places in the galaxy?

As for the lightsaber... A handguard makes perfect sense to me, actually. I always wondered why there were so few hands severed in the movies. All you have to do is slide down the "blade" of the opponent, good bye hand. I would have angled them upwards slightly, but I think I would want them... :shifty:

I saw the trailer/teaser too...and I like it!
For one, the world looks much more "lived into" than the clinically clean one of the prequels, which was one of the reason for the disappointment they caused.

While the "laser-holts" are peculiar and probably not very functional, the X-Wings flying NOE really gave me goosebumps. I still maintain that the F/A-18 Hornet kind of looks like one, with the wings mounted relatively aft.

Funny you should mention that; it was claimed that the Vipers of Battlestar Galactica were a ripoff of the X-Wings...and in the USAF the unofficial nickname for the F-16 Falcon is the "Viper"...and many observers say that from certain angles F-16s and F/A-18s look similar.

The F-16 looks nothing like the Viper.

Now...a Sabre OTOH...

So, after using a Bundesliga flowchart, I've decided to start following FC Augsburg...

What kind of flow chart can drive a person to becoming follower of the puppet club?

Augsburg is the home of the famous German marionette theater Augsburger Puppenkiste - thus its custom at the club to play the title tune of "Jim Button and Luke the engine driver" as goal celebration and in their first season at the Bundesliga, the captains of the team exchanged marionettes instead of the usual club gifts.

Yes, they are pretty special ... and extremely sympathic.

One of my favourite books from my favourite author... I might just start following them too...
