This is the second summer in a row that I've lost/quit my job midway through (although, this summer, unlike last, I have two jobs, and I have lost the second one yet).

Yup. I'm actually fairly happy about it this time, considering that I wasn't injured, and it put an end to all the soul searching as to whether I should quit or not. I had decided to keep working just because I didn't want to be controlled by fear, but I was feeling fairly miserable doing so. I had decided, though, that if I ever got robbed again I would quit immediately, no questions asked. And since that's what happened, I'm rid of that job (which wasn't something I would have wanted to be rid of if I hadn't gotten robbed the first time).

My manager mentioned that only one person had been robbed before me in the time she'd been there...

And the reason is that 1/3 can't be represented in binary (or even finite decimal for that purpose). You hardly ever want to compare floating point values exactly. Instead it's typical to see if their difference is less than some "epsilon" error you are willing to tolerate.

Warning: A Rant About The Real World

I hate my government.

The more I work for my money, the more they take it away from me. Why do we tax more on those that work harder every day, those that put in the extra hours to survive?

The more money I save to pay my already large college bills, the less financial aid I receive, thus even larger college bills.

I feel that if I didn't work at all, the cheaper college would be. I feel all the work I put in, and all the money I saved, was in vain, and has done more trouble than good.

What's the point? This has been a huge setback.

My mother always used to say: "Imagine what's it like in the real world."

Looking back, is this what she meant?

I went to the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney last Friday. Highlights were:

- the space exhibit generally (of course).
- the life size F-1 engine (I haven't been able to find out if it is just a model or the real thing).
- the building/architecture (it is built in and around the old Ultimo Power Station - lots of local history there).

Int'resting. I was browsing Wikipedia, and apparently the US military is still giving out the purple hearts it manufactured in WWII in anticipation of the invasion of Japan. They expected 500,000 wounded and killed in the first 90 days, should an invasion be necessary, so they made 500,000 purple hearts. By 2003, there were still 120,000 left.

So it's August of 2008, and the US military still hasn't suffered all the casualties it expected to suffer by January of 1946.
