Hi everyone,
I have been using orbiter (I'm addicted) for the past couple weeks. I love space and anything space related. I'm currently a college student in Philadelphia.

I have spent hours browsing the forums here, have taken a lot of good advice, and have read many of the recommended tutorials (Flytandem, thank you kindly). My most recent achievement was a TransX slingshot from KSC to Saturn, via Jupiter and using the DG-IV. Thanks to this forums and its community, I can now travel, reenter and land (where possible!), and dock anywhere in the solar system using TransX and the DG-IV and XR-2. Having the fundamentals down, I would like to step up to more challenging and realistic spacecraft. I wish I could help develop, but I know more Japanese than I do programming (which is one word, minus proper nouns).

Here is how addicted I am to Orbiter: After I registered for the forum, there is that rule page that you have to accept before you can post. You have to wait 10 seconds before you can click "accept," which has a countdown timer. I pressed "T". Nothing happened, at which point I realized the flaw in the logic.

:welcome: to Orbiter-Forum!

:welcome: and :hailprobe:!
Add your story to the "You know you're addicted to Orbiter when..." thread in the off-topic forum. It will get a round of

Thank you kindly. Oh I forgot! After I graduate college and make some dough (hopefully), I plan on flying as a hobby. So naturally I love flight-simulators. This one... is unique. Doesn't have the best atmospheric flight and realism. However! I can leave said atmosphere. That is just amazing. Watching the all-encompassing blue sky fade into a thin glow, dwarfed by the star-lined blackness of space is awe-inspiring. For someone who's favorite subject has always been the cosmos, it's also amazing to actually get some perspective on the ENORMOUS distances involved. The whole Basketball in New York, ping pong ball in Los Angeles just isn't the same.

:welcome:

Some things you may want to know;

-Anyone with their name in red is a forum admin. I know of Tex and Orb. There may be others.

-Anyone with their name in blue is a forum moderator. There are quite a few. You should see them around the forums.

-Anyone with their name in orange is a addon developer. They are probably able to help you if you ever try to make addons.

martins is the personal profile of Martin Schweiger, the maker of Orbiter. :)

You may aslo want to learn about the "Cult of the Probe" :hailprobe:, and Tuesday.

Hello, and :welcome: to Orbiter-Forum! It's great to see someone get such an initial impression of the software.

Thanks! Anyone tweek with their star settings? I spent hours doing it, and I found this setting very nice for what I imagine space to look with while factoring the brightness of the sun:

App. Mag 0.0 Mapped to max bright 1
App. Mag 12.0 Mapped to min bright 0.02
Mapping: Exponential

Celestial Sphere: Visible (DSS2/Wikisky) Intensity 0.20

Anyone recommendation on what other people like, who are slightly inclined towards OCD such as myself? I haven't found a a decent thread on the subject (read them all! lol)

Hi and welcome, another newbie here. I understand and embrace :hailprobe:

But I'm stumped about the reference to "Tuesday". I did a search and it returned 16 pages of messages...would someone like to give me a clue please.

Thanks

Dave

Welcome to the forum and don't forget about the daily :hailprobe:.

If I understand correctly, Tuesday is the day they release beta versions of much-desired addons, such as the XR2 Mk 2.

Darn, for a second I thought you were going to say you knew Japanese.
Welcome to the forums! :hello:

Nope, sorry! As I mentioned, I do know a ton of proper nouns though! Most of which consist of IJN ship naming protocols (WWII history buff). Even worse, only in Romaji.

P.s. I would have thought someone would have made a Yamato addon. While Googleing info on the battleship, I had to sift through all the anime results of the "space version"!
