Complex cost analysis of each mission based on actual data from sim exported to OpenOffice Spreadsheet document. The spreadsheet would of course be dynamic in that variable costs could be altered to accomodate changing design, etc. We're doing a lot of space flight simulation, someone might wonder how much it might cost... Aggregates could be accumulated for long term projects like going to mars or building a space elevator.
 
I would love to log my fuel costs per flight and calculate how much taxpayer / investor money we spend each night hooning around :D

Oh and also the amount of CO2 and other pollutants released into the atmosphere after filling the sky with smoke O.o
 
Why not do this yourself? The costs per flight would be variable depending on how you wanted to do it and how much detail you wanted to go into.

For example, Hydrogen is supplied to NASA who then store it in tanks near the launch pad. There is a cost for this, a cost for the transportation and a cost for the people who handle the load. Then there is a cost for the pad maintenance, a cost for pad security and fuel costs for vehicles used to move around the pad.

And so on. How much detail do you want? I have trouble keeping track of my own VSA's flights. I leave costs to the accounts department.... :lol: Although I do think I need to speak to Altea Aerospace about the high call out charges on their maintenance contracts...

On orbit, the shuttle (no car can do 100 million miles on a single tank). In everything else, the car.

Logging fuel consumption is easy. You have things like the flight recorder, burntimecalc and others. Or a pen and paper.

If you don't really want to go into detail, pretend that your Orbiter simulation simulates a society where Ideal Communism has won, and money don't exist at all. You are getting your XR2 and supplies for your flight just per request you apply to a local branch of World Council. :rofl:

That's exactly how I see it while launching next Energia into LEO from Sumatra. Just to imagine how much it would cost to deliver it into Sumatra....:facepalm:

I follow the capitalist approach. ISA is backed by big but anonymous investors. Just leave your investment in a brown paper bag by the rocket test stand, 1 Ascension Island, Ascension. :lol:
 
I've been working on a cost-analysis spreadsheet for a while now. I run into the same problem with making a fair estimation of base-line costs for craft like the XR-2 (and how much its magic fuel would actually cost per unit). For something like the shuttle, I have a pretty good working spreadsheet made already. It's not hard to do, requires pen/paper, a small amount of excel knowledge, and a reasonable investment of time.

I really can't keep track of the costs. It most likely is only a fraction of what I am paying to cover up the bodies.
