Hi.

I am trying to get the LCROSS/LRO to the moon in this great addon.

I´ve got up to the point of setting up the TransX, but this is my first journey using this MFD..

I follow the procedures that came with the LRO-addon. Everything (launch, TLI, fueldump) works fine up until the TransX part.

The manual says:

At about 25M altitude above the earth, select Transx in both MFDs. Select moon as the target in the right MFD

Click the FWD button for stage 2, make sure the view is Setup and select the target as Escape.
Click the FWD button again for stage 3, and select the target as Moon
Click the VW button for Sling Direct view.
On the Left MFD, click the FWD button for stage 2, if not already there.
Click the VW button for slingshot view, if not already there.

There will be a green line extending from the center of the moon to hopefully past the edge. This is an edge-on view of our current approach to the moon. We need to fine tune this approach to give us a lunar gravity assist which will result in a highly inclined orbit around the earth with a period of 36 days

On the Right MFD, click the VAR button twice to bring up the Inc. angle parameter
Click on ++ several times until the dotted yellow orbit is about the same size as the solid green line.
It does not have to be superimposed in the same place, but of a similar diameter.

On the Left MFD the dotted yellow line should be on the same side (more or less) of the moon as the green line. If it is on the opposite side, click on the -- button until it is on the same side.

My first problem is that the yellow dotted line is not on the same side of the moon as the solid green one:

And my second problem is that by hitting "--" on the Left MFD nothing happens. It just changes between Approach and depart. (Hitting it on thr Right MFD obviously just keeps changing the size of the yellow dotted ellipse in that MFD.)

Any help is much appreciated!

Yep, keep going. The inc.angle (in the MFD showing "Stage3:3") should be around -120 (+/- 10). So hit -- in that MFD to reduce the inc.angle.

Hopefully the yellow dotted line (in the MFD showing "Stage2:3") should be poking out the opposite side.

...I think.

Good luck :-)

Hi Brian. Thak you for your response.

I just find it strange to keep hitting R-MFD "--" after just hitting it "++" to make the shapes similar..

However I tried this, and you were right, the yellow dotted line appeared on the other side (this time being less than 90 degrees from the green solid) but it still seems to be too far away.

Don't worry too much about that. If I recall, the next steps in the manual deal with refining the slingshot (which will make the dotted-yellow line move) then setting up a maneuver to place yourself on that trajectory (match the green line to the yellow-dotted line).

Cheers.
