Hurricane Gustav threatens to Hit New Orleans

Yeah, its picking up a good amount of moisture on the southern side, but its getting pretty disorganized and the right arm is pretty weak.

... seriously, though, I'm sitting here in the western end of the Florida panhandle keeping a close eye on this thing, simultainiously glad it isn't headed here, and sorry that someone has to get hit by it.

I just hope the people in N'awlins decide to listen to the evacuation order this time.

Ironically, we have a minor league baseball team here, the New Orleans Zephyrs, and one of the catchers is named Gustavo (I know, not exact but still, we ragged on him for it, but he was good natured with it).

Well, the NWS radar has already started to show something that looks quite similar to the edge of a hurricane, south-east of New Orleans. The GFS forecast also shows it right on New Orleans for tomorrow morning, although the New Orleans area should and is already getting precipitation. IMHO, it doesn't look good at all. If the forecast stays similar , the eye should be on/just to the west of New Orleans by tomorrow at 12 UTC. Either way, it's bad.

It's already making landfall on New Orleans. The radar shows that the city is getting quite some rain...and probably the west side of the hurricane will hit it as well.

The meteorologists nailed it this time -- the final track before it hit landfall was precisely what they were predicting yesterday around noon here when I was making the decision to NOT go out and buy fresh batteries.
