Oh no, not again, let it not be so. Hurricane Gustav is forcasted to hit near the New Orleans area as a CAT 3 Hurricane, as strong as Katrina. Whats going in my mind, are the levees ready?

Dr. Jeff Masters, a Former Hurricane Hunter who nearly lost his life in Hurricane Hugo in the NOAA Orion P-3 Aircraft, wrote this about Gustav.

"Today is the 3rd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's catastrophic hit on the Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama coast. Unfortunately, I think that people living in New Orleans should mark the anniversary of Katrina by getting the heck out of the city. You live at the bottom of a bowl, ten or so feet below sea level. This is not natural. Nature wants to fill up this bowl with huge quantities of Gulf of Mexico sea water. There is a storm capable of doing that bearing down on you. If you live in New Orleans, I suggest you take a little Labor Day holiday--sooner, rather than later, to beat the rush--and get out of town. Gustav is going to come close to you, and there's no sense messing with a major hurricane capable of pushing a Category 3 storm surge to your doorstep. Don't test those Category 3 rated--but untested--levees. Conventional pre-Katrina wisdom suggested that the city needed 72 hours to evacuate. With the population about half of the pre-Katrina population, that lead time is about 60 hours. With Gustav likely to bring tropical storm force winds to the city by Monday afternoon, that means that tonight is a good time to start evacuating--Saturday morning at the latest. Voluntary evacuations have already begun, which is a good idea."

Its now a wait and See..

If you want a good place to check out exactly what's going on and get basically a minute-by-minute commentary, check out talkweather.com.

At least, it will not displace as many people as Katrina... I just read an article how the city government of New Orleans used the chance to get rid of the poorest citizens and quarters...

Category 3, as strong as Katrina? Uhhh no.... HAHAH NO.

And it's NOT 100% going to his us. Jesus people quit looking at the middle line of the projected path. It's not even in the Gulf yet.

I live here in New Orleans, I'm not concerned. At all.

As a resident of the area who knows a few people in politics.... I can say, yes. But not so much the poorest people as much as the criminals. Which ended up backfiring.

Gustav over night has rapidly intensified as the Hurricane Center feared it would, its a 120 MPH Hurricane right now, and could hit Cuba were there is flat land as a Category 4 Hurricane. Mandatory Evacuations are now underway in New Orleans.

Looks like it's a 4 now, with gusts of far above 100 mph. 78 deaths already. There's really no telling how much damage a hurricane will actually do until it hits. This storm could end up as 'nothing' like Edouard did recently, or it could end up far worse than Katrina. You just can't tell. At least coastal cities seem to be ready to recieve aid and evacuate people as quickly and effectively as possible.

God help them in New Orleans . I just got an email from work, if it hits N.O again they are looking for rescue volunteers.....another day in the life of a paramedic:dry:

New Orleans is going to need all the help they can get, its now forcasted to become a Category 5 Hurricane and hit Louisiana as a Category 4 Hurricane

To all citizens there, take care.

N.

Now up to 150 MPH, 6 MPH away from CAT 5 strength.

Will not matter to anybody who is inside the hurricane. Or do you think they can tell 150 MPH from 156 mph...

Wait... Hanna is supposed to be moving this way too?! (although it may break up before getting very far) Anyways, Fox's track shows Gustav as pretty much hitting New Orleans and then circling around and heading back down south through Texas as a tropical storm/depression. (it hates us so much, it comes back around for more :P) It looks like Hanna's going to hit Cuba and/or Florida and definitely the Bahamas. (hopefully breaking up AT the Bahamas and going no further)

The current projected track does not show it hitting ON New Orleans. It's going to go near Terrebone Parish/Lake Charles, Louisiana.

But again people, what you fail to realize, it's NOT in the Gulf YET, and it's not 100% it will follow that line. There's still that cone of error. Nick it could go straight for you, me, or whip into Mobile Bay.

Gustav's eye isn't so clean anymore. The jetstream remains high in the north and winds are quite calm. So the it shouldn't have much time to get stronger over the gulf, or spend much time on the coast.

Yeah, Gustav probably won't get up to CAT5 before landfall. Its trajectory and will keep its right arm (strong side) from getting too strong. Still going just west of New Orleans.

It dropped back down to a 3 today. :) Hopefully that might make it a little easier to deal with. Still, this doesn't look too good. (NOTE: That page will probably change some time after I've posted it)
