Looks like some birds got me on the way home... a lot of fuel left. Or I was to fast...

Hm, interesting. Haven't Farbri had a similar mysterious double engine flame-out with the F-15 once?

I remember a similar event with the A-10C, with one engine suddenly failing without hostile fire... luckily, the A-10C has one engine spare. Never happened since I have rudder pedals...

Not really, just a possible temporary failure to relight afterburner when descending from 110+k feet. :)

EDIT: again, fairly off-topic, but goddamit:

No, it was me, actually. Never did get to the bottom of that, and have only done two additional flights in the F-15C; one to try and recreate the flame outs and the second to finish the second part of the test flight that the flame outs precluded. Have not touched it since (as I am a dedicated SU-25 A / T jock :)).

Bird strikes, I find, occur under 100 meters in DCS, and invariably (for me, at any rate) cause a fire. Much like where they occur IRL. So unless migrating geese are simulated, mine were not bird strikes.

I think these were birdstrikes. I also experienced those, but only when flying low, while landing or taking off.

Can't remember when I was ever flying high in a A-10C. It takes already decades to get to 15,000 ft for dropping some LGBs.

As a hypothetical question, what would it take to have a dedicated server running?

Is it possible to have something that "cycles" through various missions? Or maybe to have stuff "respawn" regularly?

I looked into this a few months back and the dedicated server capabilities seemed somewhat lacking...just curious if it's changed since then.

Not sure if you've seen this, or even if it is what you are looking for.

Hm, would be cool if the Steam versions were also on sale. AFAIK you aren't supposed to mix versions, and I already purchased one of the Steam modules.

If they are going on a sale on Steam between 5th and 18th, too, then not earlier than at 17:00 UTC today.

AFAIK you aren't supposed to mix versions

These modules can be activated on Steam or used in the DCS World stand-alone, For Steam keys there can be a delay in uploading the new keys to the SteamDB (it's usually done once per month).
With the only exception listed:
DCS: Black Shark 2 Upgrade (not compatible on Steam).

I have the A-10C from their website and World+Flaming Cliffs on Steam.
I just download the A-10C, tell it to install to the main directory of DCS (C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/Common/DCS). Ignore the update error at the end of installation. Then when you run DCS it will ask for the activation key. And if it doesn't, the activation tool can be found if you dig through the files.

Since my PC keeps going insane and corrupting my hard drives, I've had to use entirely too many of my 10 activations...

Alright, I picked up Flaming Cliffs 3. Once the 9GB (why???) download for DCSW is finished in a few days, I'll get started. :)

I'm starting out with the F-15C, and it's turning out both more and less complicated than I anticipated. Flight and navigation aren't terribly hard, and I've got a shaky grasp now of how to use Radar to acquire a target. The tutorials are overwhelming, though, once they become technical. So many terms, acronyms, and key combinations to remember!

Agreed. The F-15C's combat can be more than point and shoot.
And then it seems a lot less complicated when you go to the A-10C... Much acronym overload. I didn't realize how much you have to interact with computers and MFDs with a huge variety of hotkeys all the time.

Precisely why I got Flaming Cliffs instead of one of the dedicated modules. That level of complexity is just too much, at least for now.

That is why I invested into a HOTAS Warthog... frustration with the keyboard shortcuts was overwhelming.

The manual and training videos for the F-15C seem to be wrong. Pressing 2 does not put the HUD in LRS mode, it puts it in VISUAL mode. Pressing 6 *I think* puts it in LRS mode, but I'm not really certain. Also, Rctrl+I does nothing; I have no idea how to get into TWS mode.
