Same desktop for more than one year now. 
It is desktops like this where it becomes apparent how basically no one understands the desktop analog. I hope your actual desk is covered with stuff you aren't currently working on, so at least it is consistent.
Note how there is nothing sitting on my desktop, because I am not currently working on anything that doesn't already have a permanent home on my HDD. My taskbar has pinned applications I use constantly, and my start menu has moderately used applications pinned there. Now if I download something and it isn't going to stick around long term, etc, it will sit on my desktop until I am done using it. Much like you (should) use a real desk!
What about getting to any of your own projects in two clicks? Saves time, doesn't it?
