Scenario Solar Sail payload launches Are there any?

Hi,

Are there any of these available? It doesn't seem so.

I only noticed this software had a scenario with one, how ever it dwarf's the Delta craft.

I thought that there may be one that could of been launched into orbit that would fit in the cargo section of the STS.

I own a book which has a chapter on solar sails that could be used for a space probe to send to another star system. That would obviously have disadvantages for an objective like that.

I was more interested in a sort of concept that would be stored in the STS.

In the real world, the NEA scout is a cubesat solar sail that will piggyback on the SLS test:

However, BrianJ's add on is the only dedicated solar sail that I know of for Orbiter, other than the original.

I suspect because it is very difficult to navigate them properly to do something useful...

Any ideas why it never was a mission in the past? I should of remembered the chapter in the book, it may actually give that answer.:uhh:

I keep getting it wrong on the module launch from the moon, what altitude? And um, pitch, again another balancing act, I've failed six times in the past half an hour.

About the module taking off from Brighton beach, I'm unsure on how to get it into orbit around the moon.

As for the Solar sail, during the STS years there never was a proposed mission to try a small sail in orbit. I was also refering to a book which mentions solar sails though that being for a probe to another star system.

As for the Solar sail, during the STS years there never was a proposed mission to try a small sail in orbit. I was also refering to a book which mentions solar sails though that being for a probe to another star system.

Did you see the link to Ikaros? Launched in 2010 (not on a shuttle though). 14 meter span, and will attempt to ener a Venusian orbit this year (if things haven't changed).

No I don't know of it.

As for the Module, it could only be the one James Mcdivitt commanded in March 1969.

I start off launching to about several hundred kilometers and then being a pitch to about 80 or ninety degrees. I almost have made it when I attempted yesterday night.

Ikaros will not enter Venus orbit. What you're thinking of is Akatsuki.

March 1969? First flight of the CSM/LM combo? In which the "Module" didn't launch from the moon but they both remained in LEO for testing?

The correct term is "Apollo Lunar Module".

Please remember that there are millions of modules in the world and thousands of modules alone in spaceflight.

Yes, the Spider Module is the 2012 release with 8.00 fuel in the tank. Ofcourse when take off from the Moon, it only has 2.30 fuel.

It froze for me on landing, how ever with take off it never happens even when crashing into the surface.

Ofcourse I keep being so ambigious due to me only using specific craft such as the Lunar Module which is always the 2012 release. I no longer have Mr Drake's one.

And now just tried out yesterday an actual short distance docking with the MPCV, quite nice. I might just try out that Mcdivitt mission again, somehow try and repeat they're steps, unlikely, but that long distance docking is the challenge.

The above aside, taking off from the surface and getting into a circular orbit with the Module is my objective for the moment.

Yes, I already petitioned for moving the posts about that question back into the original thread.

This thread is about solar sail payloads, not Lunar Modules and most people who search the forum for answers will not expect a lengthy lunar module Q&A here. What you are doing is very egoistically in that sense, because you deny others the chance to find help.
