The great European Cultural Event is back! Don't miss this chance to express your nations musical heritage...

or just watch and try not to laugh.

Just noticed the UK entry.
23. United Kingdom: Jade Ewen will sing It's My Time

Talk about tempting fate, it'll probably be her time to come last.

Its that popular? Prime time tv in the UK, I an hadly wait.

Looking forward to it. The missus has got a bunch of friends coming ronud, so I get lots of beer and the chance to watch the Danes get all excited as they think they can win.
Sweden has no chance, though :(

I think Britain or Norway will win it, now that we have this new voting system I presume it won't be an eastern country, most of their songs are terrible.

Great, my Saturday night television viewing is rubbish

It's funny, all you other countrys seem to enjoy it. I know it's a farce and rule number 1 is UK cannot who.

It is only about female secondary sexual attributes. If you don't have that, try it with pyrotechnics.

The last time, the best song won was when Finland and Lordi stomped the content.

BBC is presenting the story of the UK entry. Not sure I can take any more than the first 30 seconds. Its cynicism is breathtaking.
Might be able to last till the Final starts, but I'm not sure.

Cannot what?

I think the reason that the UK doesn't enjoy eurovision is because it's a little too quirky for them. Whenever I watched it with Brits they spent the entire time cringing at the songs and being cynical about the whole thing.
Most other conutries just treat it as a bit of fun, yes we all would like to do well but the most important thing is having a few beers and enjoying being part of it.

That said, I'll be annoyed if Norway don't win ;)

(edit)
Its cynicism is breathtaking.

As I was saying :p

At least you got rid of Terry Wogan this year, that should make proceedings a little less sarcastic.

I think Terry Wogan finally had enough - Graham Norton is doing it this time <.<

It's always funny to watch the votes coming in, too. UK hardly ever gets more than 20 points, most of which are from Ireland.

Very funny viewing, though.

A rare treat, and as a founder member of Eurovision, the Uk should win every time!
As for Terry Wogan, he wasn't sarcastic enough, hopefully Mr Norton should get stuck into every inuendo possible...

Marvelous, somebody just tried to set fire to the stage, and one of The Krankies has turned up(UK reference).
The Bouncy Red Chaps were good though.

I am embarrassed to admit that I am actually watching this online, during a trip to the States.

The things you have to do to assert your European identity ... ;)

Excellent, shame it only runs three hours...

Fun for you to watch it, from all over the world.
But here in Moscow, it's 23:30, and the center is suffocating in traffic:

But i'm not complaining, i live on the rim. :)

Good show they made this time, looks better than the last few times.

:hesaid:

I have to say that I can't stand Eurovision myself. I got nothing against it, I just hate all these types of reality talent shows. There are too many of them.

The music, IMHO, is never that great. And most of the artists I have never even heard of.

The voting is also noting to do with musical talent, it is all political. Friendly countries vote for each other, or everyone gangs up on a country they all hate in an attempt to wrestle them out of the competition (that's why the UK will never win);)

And it completely takes over whichever channel it is being broadcast on, therefore there is nothing else worth watching on that particular night.

As you can probably tell, I HATE EUROVISION!!!:@

Whenever I watched it with Brits they spent the entire time cringing at the songs and being cynical about the whole thing.

You are describing me perfectly!!!:P

Not sure which audience the German entry is aimed at, but I liked it.

WOW!!!

I just had an amazing experience!

The TV was on in the background, showing the Eurovision song contest (other family members were watching it, NOT me)!

Anyway, the TV then cut to show the crewmembers aboard the ISS doing a live call down the contest, to give a message of luck or something. (I guess Moscow pulled a few strings);)

And at that moment, I remembered that the ISS was supposed to be coming over my house. So I looked out the window, and there it was, moving across the sky. And the TV was still showing that live call.

It was awesome, to think that those guys on the TV were in that point of light right now!!!

:speakcool:

Good for Norway, highest score in 50+ years. Moldova should get an award for best frock, and Turkey, the Green Prize for least amount of clothing used.

The Armenian, Turkish, Norwegian and Azerbaijani songs were good, and I'm surprised the German one didn't do better.

Still, judging by the people I watched it with I don't think Ryback won purely because of his musical talent ;)
That said, I voted for the Icelandic one for no particular musical reason.

The German performance was expected like that. The song is not bad compared to the rest of the songs (The Swedish one was torture), but also not too impressive. And especially notice how much effort of the Eurovision directors went into hiding the fact that a Dita Von Teese was on the stage as well for the first part of the performance. ;)

The German music scene can do better... but not the German public broadcasting stations.
