Red stars on Russian combat planes turn multicolor

MOSCOW (AP) -- After more than 90 years, the Russian stars will no longer be all red. They'll be red, white and blue.

The Kremlin-controlled lower house of parliament voted 389-2 Friday to replace Soviet-era red stars on military aircraft with ones bearing the three colors of the Russian national flag. The five-pointed red stars have adorned the planes since the 1917 Bolshevik revolution.

A bit more colors, some plush around the cockpit... and you have a real nice girls combat aircraft.

Honestly - even the German army did not dare replacing the Iron cross by a tricolore. And we have lost more wars with it.

What's the low visibility version look like? Just a hollow star? That' wouldn't be so bad.

LOL Capt. America. I like his WWII-era old school leather holster for his M1911A1 pistol. Isn't he the only superhero to remain on active duty in the US Army? The US Army used to paint its tanks and jeeps olive drab green with a big white star on it.

Ouch!! Low blow, LOL!

I think Germany's iron cross remains the symbol voted "most feared by enemy tank crews" for over 60 years.

I too find the old "all red" version of the star was much better looking.

"Keep it simple & stupid" is THE guiding principle for logos... But this 3-color star is just plain stupid and bad looking.

Also, it had no big white parts, hence there was no need in a special low contrast version: red melds nicely with usual camouflage backgrounds in twilight. And in the contrary, any version of a roundel which can be made out the Russian tricolor would be a very contrasting target bulls-eye (or already picked by someone).

That does suck... :( but at least it's still a star... Wonder whose idea it was to change it?

Some anonymous brass' in the MOD.

By the way, it's interesting that the Red star used to symbolize "Liberation of working people from famine, war, poverty and slavery" and was colloquially called "Mars Star" in the time following its inception as the emblem of the Red Army in 1918.

It sure strikes me funny how close they both look alike.
