Still not sure how they get the distance, and aren't the ranges reversed?

I don't really understand how they get the angle of the lines. It must depend on the time delay between neighbouring microphones, so the soldiers should have a table listing angle depending on delay.
Howsoever, the recording shows the pure senselessness of war. Why are the guns still being fired although everyone knows that the end of war is only minutes away?
 
Loaded guns are heavier to bring home.
