Hi, I downloaded some custom ships from Orbiter Hanger and put them into my copy of Orbiter. When I started the scenarios that the packages come with, the vessels do not appear. In installing a custom vessel in orbiter, is there anything other than unzipping the archive that the package is in and copying the contents into the Orbiter root directory? Thank you.

Well, there are many ZIPs out there that do not have the necessary directory structure for direct deployment to the root, or that depend on other addons. What custom vessel are you talking about?

I'm having the same problem with a Klingon Bird of Prey addon that downloaded from the OHanger. I downloaded 2 bops and they were working just fine on my Win-7 system. However, now after installing some other addons,
When I launch them I seem to have the ships cockpit window working but I can't see the ship on the ground or in space. Could it be a problem with the resolution setting on my video card?

Take a look at the JoneSoft Mod Enabler Tool. It'll let you add and remove mods with a mouse-click. It's a real help when diagnosing which add-on is causing trouble.

Klingon Fleet was one of the addons added before I stoped seeing my BoP. Now CTD. How do you print out the log?

the log is in a file called
Orbiter.txt
in your main orbiter directory

I was reading some of the posts and i forum a post that was having the problem of ships not showing up. It was fixed by using a create internal (or external0 link. I can't seem find that post again but it looked like that on the main menu before you launch there was a tab that you had to highlight or check. I went to my Orbiter 2010 to do that when i got home but i did not see that feature or option on the main menu. However, the person that had the problem solved it by checking or highlighting that create internal link option.
Please help me whith this. so i can mabe see my Bird of Prey again.

P.s. can you tell me how to get a copy of the log so i can post it?

Are you running in d3d9? or regular graphics?

Just open the orbiter.log with notepad,....

I found the post:
"Im running the latest Orbiter version and installed various addon ships and all of them are invisible. Ive made sure that the spacecraft2 and spacecraft3 DLL's are in the modules/plugin folder (for some strange reason the DLL's unzip to the modules folder not the modules/plugin folder so I corrected this).
'
This means that SC3 is reading the .ini file but is unable to find a mesh that the ini file refers to. Rather than CTD it'll show nothing which is probably the OP's root cause.

Here it is: Orbiter-Forum > Orbiter Addons > Addon Support & Bugs
Reload this Page [Problem] Addon ships invisible
"there is a tab somewhere to make symbolic links to the config (and sound) directories in order for them to work."
P.s. Sorry i used the wrong word internal or external link. it should have been "symbolic fix" tab. The avobe might be a fix i'l have to try it when i get home tonight. hope it help's..

I could be wrong but the symbolic link is for D3D9 not regular graphics.

Yes, it seems that 'make symbolics links' work in d3d9 for spacecraft ( if i read the topics about the question ) but for some others - many addons made by Kev Shanow for example - dlled - the problem of the mesh invisible seems to be related in orbiter 2010 as in orbiter 2015 to a question of DEVMESHHANDLE/MESHHANDLE. I don't know.

But i've seen that for the first time in orbiter 2010 with the:

Dolphin HH-65A made by Kev Shanow
[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=662"]Dolphin HH-65A Version2.[/ame]

The hangar - cfg in config/vessel - is visible but not the helico. Maybe an old API function deleted in orbiter 2010.

At least, with spacecraft dll installed, and spacecraft cgf, in orbiter 2010 or 2015 or 2015 d3d9, a can see that bird:

What You are saying is way over my head. Can you explain symbolic link in a simple way so i can try to check out my problem. i'd also like someone to tell me just hot to look at a log to post the error.

generic vessel eliminates the need, for symbolic links when it comes to Dx9 finding config/spacecraft folder.

I wanted to say that, starting from my trys, you don't have to use anything and particulary you don't have to use symbolics links here.

If the install of the Bird of Pray is correct ( but try to install it manually: the original zip if i remember, is curiously made, with particulary a macosx folder ??? and sub-sub folders )...if the install is correct, spacecraft file in config/spacecraft folder...meshe in the Meshes folder and so on... and if Vinka spacecraft files are there ( cfg... modules... etc installed in the good folders ) you should not have any problem to load the Bird scenario in orbiter 2010 or 2015 or 2015 d3d9.

Try that file:

I deleted the docking with MIR in the "Bird of Prey - MIR.scn" because if you use orbiter sound 4.0 you will have a ctd at start in orbiter 2015 and maybe - i'm not sure - in 2010 vers and the ISS with the old coordinates system. And i remade the distribution of the folder in that zip.

Note: waiting for a solution to the docking problem with orbitersound 4.0, on can use for that specific circumstance the 3.5 version of orbitersound but with regrets for many things coming with the 4.0.

good day

Let me explane to you what i found out last night. I installed on my Win-7 system a Orbiter 031217 build. I tested it with the Dragonfly ship that was included with it. Test Ok. I then added the BoP (the Bop that I first had working before the no see ship problem). I launched it and the BoP was sitting there on the runway or launchpad. The BoP wings move up and down just fine. Test ok.
I then tried a Orbiter 06xxxx build and after a good test launch with an included ship, I added that same BoP. that test failed. I could not see the BoP.
I then went back to the Orbiter-031217 build and added this addon:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Star Wars Universe
A star wars universe for orbiter. Includes :
Tatooine, Mustafar, Endor, Coruscant, Yavin, Geonosis, Hoth, Naboo, Dagobah, some moons (including yavin4). 3 spaceships: Kyle Wiegers's Xwing, a naboo royal ship and a very detailed Millennium Falcon (By Alexey Meerow and Chris Johnston)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried a test launch with the BoP and no see BoP. This SWU addon I supect is the culpret that crashed the BoP when I had it working on my Orbiter- 2010 system. I'm glad I made a back up of the O-031217 that had the BoP working fine. I only wish that I had made a bk-up of the O- 2010 that had a working BoP.

I will test out the new Bop that You have posted and reply back.
Thank's again for all the help from everyone here. DC...

Just tried the repaired BoP file from above on my Win-7 Orbiter 2010 (an orbiter 2010 without any other addons other than all 3 of Vinka's Spacecraft dlls and OrbiterSound 4.0. Results = CTD both scenarios.

P.S. I use to have this CTD problem with some of Battlefields. The problem were allway's a screen resolution selection issue.

It's the in the base root folder of Orbiter, along with Orbiter.exe. In order to see file extensions, you need to have Show file extensions for known file types unchecked in the Windows Explorer Folder options.
