And let kids go out play in the snow, or let them being locked up and warm at home and do nothing?

Just curious, what do kids usually do over there when school is cancelled?

I think the main reason is that safety on the way to the school can't be provided or it would simply take a too long time, at least that's how I always understood it.

And when already multiposting: Gives you a sense how empty the US actually is.

In our area, particularly in the surrounding counties, there are a lot of unpaved back roads. Navigating some of them in icy conditions, whether from sleet/freezing rain, or with just a light snow that melts on the ground but freezes on the roadway, is treacherous even for 4WD vehicles, let alone a school bus. Although I think the phrase 'Any snow' is very misleading. It is handled on a situation-by-situation basis, and the decision is ultimately determined by the road conditions, but current and what they estimate they will be based on precip and temp forecasts.

Indeed. I'm in an area that says, "any snow", and yet that is false. It snowed about 1/4" a few years back... no one panicked, we just went outside for a little bit, made snowmen and had a snowball fight or two, then went back to our routines. No cancelled school, no freeways shut down. Just a little snowy surprise and fun for a few hours until it melted.

In Money Drop, a few days ago (basically a game where you have bills, you put them on trapdoors on what you think is the correct answer to the asked question, and try to save the money as much as you can), there was a question about Sputnik 2: when was it launch. The two people there thought for a very, very long time if the second mission was before or after Sputnik 1.
The answers were 1943, 1957, 1962 and 1969. They did put some money on 1943.
. Just . Even if you pass by the amount of knowledge on this (I doubted myself between 1957 and 1962) but seriously, how can one doubt on 2 being before 1? I know France is not that good at maths, but still ...

When did Elvis Costello perform at the Superbowl halftime show?

Approximately the same difficulty for an Orbinaut as Sputnik 2 is to your standard citizen.

Elvis Presto.
Why is everyone calling himself Elvis? Are they trying to make the Kings happening?

They did put some money on 1943.
. Just .
Trick question reflex, amplified by lack of specific knowledge on the topic.

I.e. "how long was The Hundred Years' War?"

It is not a reflex as they got 45 secs to put the money plus 1-2 minutes to think before.

You can give a dolphin four years, as long as he never learned it he won't solve your calculus homework for you.

Disclaimer: Dolphins are highly intelligent and aren't used to degrade people here, everyone has limited knowledge and is not omniscient.

Of course, but you have to remember they are the second most intelligent species for a reason.

Possible counterpoint: The dolphins at least were smart enough to know when to vacate Dodge -- and at the very least they did thank us for all the fish . . .
