-30C static temperature this morning, with windchill in my area down to -44.5C.

On the bright side, my car started in this. That means I get to go to work.

Good thing I replaced the battery this past autumn . . .

Not really, just the normal freezing rain. Pretty ice-coated twigs, slippery slopes, and a cool-looking but irritating ice sheath for every exposed car. AFAIK not even one power outage.

On another note: Because the USA are freezing, we Europeans have warm mild winter weather - the weather systems are linked, they get the cold air and we get the warm air. On another year, we would be due for the same cold air, but won't: The European mountain ranges go mostly from east to west and divert the cold air over the North Sea, where it gets warmed by the gulf stream or make Russia a bit colder.
