-30C static temperature this morning, with windchill in my area down to -44.5C.

On the bright side, my car started in this. That means I get to go to work.

Good thing I replaced the battery this past autumn . . .

We're actually above zero right now and raining lightly, which is almost horrifying. The last few weeks have routinely dropped to -25C or lower (not bad but pretty cold), and we have some 120cm of snow. Which is about to become ice. Hooray.

Unseasonably warm and bone dry. The nearby lake is at 20% capacity, and there's not much snowpack in the mountains...

Gonna be a drought year again. :(

There's a reason I never moved to Alaska.

Did I mention I hate Winter?

Insult to injury: A friend of mine is a meteorologist. He just pointed this out:

Meanwhile, in Moscow it's above freezing, it rains, and the dirt gets everywhere.
Some new year, huh?

Ouch.

Did the Maritimes get the recent ice storm that hit here as well?

Not really, just the normal freezing rain. Pretty ice-coated twigs, slippery slopes, and a cool-looking but irritating ice sheath for every exposed car. AFAIK not even one power outage. :)

Best of luck with the storms, mate.

Thanks, but I think you'll need it more ;)

Its supposed to be -40 with the windchill tonight though :speakcool:

Just found out that a nearby cave site is planning on being open to tourists Jan 7-9. Current temp inside the caves: 52 F.

Now THAT's a good idea -- that'll be positively tropical in comparison . . .

On another note: Because the USA are freezing, we Europeans have warm mild winter weather - the weather systems are linked, they get the cold air and we get the warm air. On another year, we would be due for the same cold air, but won't: The European mountain ranges go mostly from east to west and divert the cold air over the North Sea, where it gets warmed by the gulf stream or make Russia a bit colder.

Did NASA install the escape pole? Maybe it was in the wrong orientation. ;)

Next time just get going with Leia, get her pregnant, get a disabled child, figure out she's your sister, shoot that baby into the Death Star.
Although that might take slightly longer.
