I made a scientific breakthrough this evening : a full, unopened beer glass bottle sinks.
It is winter (not astronomically but...) now, and cold tap water is really cold. I wanted to cool a beer bottle that was at ambient temp. So I had the idea to fill the sink with cold water, and let the bottle float into it. Except it sunk, and fast, I wasn't expecting that. For some reason I was believing that all the CO2 in beer was enough to make it float. But the glass is pretty heavy, too.
Another misconception that radically went away, another small step forward for personnal science !![]()
It is pretty common in Germany to submerge a box full of beer in a cold mountain river, during fishing... yes, it not only sinks, it does not even move away in stronger currents.
