I just heard about the crash at the Dayton Ohio airshow. I saw Jane Wicker (the wing-walker) several years ago. My best thoughts go out to any and all who may be involved.

It seems that, whenever I have a question about addon development, half the time all I need to do is search through threads started by Jedidia. :hmm:

Well, Nik Wallenda made it.
Piers Morgan: "Now THIS is cable news"
Sadly today, it is; great entertainment events are cable "news"...
Not wanting to take this to Basement level. :P It's just a little irksome that reporters can openly say what cable news really is.

"THIS . . . is CNN."

:hmm:

Well shoot. My finger must have slipped when I was flipping through the channels; I didn't know.

On Amazon, Spore has 1.6/5 stars. 2610/3295 reviews give it one star.
Basically these thousands of reviews say "Do not get a (used) copy. THE DRM. THE DRM!"
I was considering getting a copy since I haven't been able to find my original in like four years. It appears to be $10 new on Amazon. Supposedly there's a tool from EA to undo the DRM nightmare, but it's a shame that's even necessary.

Reasons why I'm totally unexcited about the new Star Wars game:

It's from EA
It's a shooter

For the SecuROM™ DRM, such tool must be used on a computer the game was previously installed to unregister it from the (on-line) database, before installing it on another computer, so it's up to the people who sell the used copy whether they unregistered it or not.

Rafael Nadal got eliminated at the first round of Wimbledon.... losing 3 straight sets! Oh dear....

This is one of the reasons why I'm no longer interested in purchasing any new games, computer, console, or otherwise, until further notice. I'm quite happy with the simulation software (Orbiter, FS9, etc.) that I have.

That, and customer service is either non-existent or worse in the regimes I've experienced from certain developer titans/corporations; my last dealings with EA support left me feeling like I was pirating their software even though I (had*) a legitimate hardcopy that was bricked by their DRM and I was speaking directly with their company about their software. The agent I chatted with did a cracking job confirming what I already knew, and no more.

If I was pirating software from company n, would I seriously go to company n and complain about it to them?

*If I wasn't so concerned with contributing to the environmental problem of introducing plastics into the landfill, I would've already tossed my (useless) hardcopy into the trash long ago. The disc . . . would make a decent coaster though.

That is still no reason to not buy what I like... I have DCS here (Ka-50, P-51D), Anno 2070 or Tropico 4 and only regret that they can steal so much time when you enjoy them.

True, but I'm not always aware of what you like. It makes it difficult to buy. ;)

You're making me feeling unconfortable. I don't buy anything via Internet, I just don't like this way of exposing your money/data, and also I distrust Steam's way's centralization, so I have quite negligible options to get non-free software.

It really hurt me when I noticed that Civilization V needed Steam, and I don't have the money required to run a legal copy of AutoCAD or CATIA, for example.

So I say yes, I use 'backups'.

Why should you run that software at all?

AutoCAD not now, it was a couple of years ago. But last year I had to use CATIA for a month and in a few weeks I'll work with it for a longer period, maybe at least a year, for the university. The same applies to Matlab, which I've still never used (but will need).

I've been investigating now and I'm surprised, they' re cheaper than when I last saw its prizes. But what I've found is Internet paying, or won't worth it due to low use.

I'm sorry if any software developer reads this and gets dissapointed.

Why do you need it? For the university? You could get a student version of the software, if you really need it.

Otherwise, you can look for cheaper alternatives. For example SciLab for Matlab, which was what I used at home for preparing Matlab homework instead of fighting for a free linux terminal and a matlab license ticket.

But if you plan opening a business, you better pay the software you use, instead of risking being out of business from day 1.

I am disappointed. You are one reason why we have such DRM :censored:.
