Now the question is: How bad must be the Philippine television program to make me deserve this punishment. And why does it cause the brain of people to make suicide.

Oh, I love my job.

er... WHAT is your Job exactly?? from reading that lovely letter you got there you could be a politician...

Politician????

I work for my money. Well, if I would be paid.

Actually, I am just a bureaucrat for OrbiterWiki.org.

EDIT: Stupid ways to kill two dwarfs in Dwarf Fortress #1

Build a observation turret above your secondary exit, dig a trench around it and have a nice fortified platform on the second floor. Build a ammo storage and a food storage in the first floor. place a pair of Marksman on the platform.

Then install a floor grate (which is not passable for dwarfs) instead of a floor hatch over the exit to the first floor. Go back to your desk and continue learning for university. After two hours watch your two dwarfs again and find out they dehydrated and died because they had been locked on the platform.

No!

So, now, my fortress population dropped from 85 to 34 dwarfs during and after the last goblin siege. :(

Jane,.. The man they called Jane.
He robbed from the man and he gave to the poor

Ok, my dwarf fortress just got attacked by it's first megabeast - a Titan. After scaring my military, calling the the militias and closing all gates, the Titan arrived, scared a few dogs and hunted a dwarf who was not able to reach the safe door inside.

I already prepared for the next death... when suddenly...SNAP. The Titan fall victim to an old cage trap. Now, I hope that keeping a titan caged works and the Titan is not able to destroy the cage from inside... because I decided that the safest place for a Titan is putting him inside the subterrean zoo I created for my dwarfs to relax. ;)

Delivering pizza is actually a fairly nice job.

The question is whether the niceness is worth the risks.

The question becomes all the more pressing when you get to the point where, rather than simply *worrying* about being robbed, you actually have *been* robbed.

So now I have to decide whether to look for a new job or keep this one.

Holy crap, linguo, you got stuck up? Hope you're alright. What state or city was this in?

Yup, and yep. I live and work in suburban Dallas.

I'm 99% certain I was robbed at fingerpoint. You generally don't hide a gun behind a shirt if you really have one, nor do you grab for money with your gun hand.

But being 99% certain that the guy can't do much to you doesn't cut it when the remaining 1% involves gunshot wounds.

Ouch. There are days when I dislike my tech support job, but at least my customers can only yell at me when things go ary....

Yeah, if you are not sure what you are doing, better play defensive.

Of course, the last time somebody tried to rob me, the guy had a pistol, his two friends not, and he waved it around like a fan. Was not too hard to be sure that I could get the pistol in this situation. And I got it. :speakcool:

Since then, I don't worry about getting robbed, I more worry about the next guys attempting this actually know their business. If even I know what is a bad situation for the robbers, some robbers should also know...

It helps the decision making process that Domino's policy is that you don't resist in case of robbery.

Does anyone of the the non-german members here know the german TV-program "Space Night"?
Just watching it :speakcool:

Well, in such a scenario what Domino's wants is far down on the list of priorities. The most important thing is that you survive. If you can do that best by handing over the cash, fine, but if resisting is the best option, don't hesitate to do so. No job is worth your life.

That's the point of the policy. When they say "don't resist," it's because in most cases resistance will just make things worse, and no amount of money is worth your life.

If they had been out to kill me from the start, resistance may have helped, but I likely wouldn't have lived to tell the tale whether I had resisted or not. Quite likely I would have been shot or knifed with no questions asked, and once they've done that, your best chances lie with "play dead." But yeah, if they had been out to kill me, and I'd been in a position to realize that before they tried, it might have helped to fight back. And I don't think Domino's would mind that.

EDIT: In other words, it helps drivers keep themselves alive when Domino's makes "stay alive" a policy.

I've done a fair mount of research into stick-ups and things, and I've seen that not resisting often encourages the bully instinct in thugs. If they think you are easy, they will sometimes decide to have some fun with you. There are plenty of reports of cashiers at 7-11 getting shot just for fun after they've handed over the money.

Bottom line is that acting meek may work, sometimes it doesn't. There are times when you have to stand for yourself against aggression, or else you encourage more of the same.

Domino's doesn't give a rat's ass about what happens to you; their policy is designed by lawyers and bean counters to protect them from liability by preventing you from carrying a weapon or instigating, and most companies have these policies.

Sounds like you handled it well, I'm not criticizing you. I'm just saying that if somebody threatens my employer's property, I'm not sticking my neck out for it, but if I feel that my person is in danger, it's a different story.

Stay safe and watch your back out there.

A high school friend of mine was lost to armed robbery (in the pizza delivery business too, although he was in the kitchen at the time). The meekness or otherwise of he and his co-workers would not have made the slightest difference, the shooter was going to kill to get the money anyway. In the words of the killer: "I was in a state of mind where I believed it [getting the money] was so important to me.". His father has since become a tireless advocate for non-violence and personal responsibility - see here.

I'm sure glad to hear you are OK, Linguofreak.
