That chinese SSN Han class was really a pain, I first hit it twice with 53 cm torpedoes, and then assumed it was sunk (I first believed it was a Kilo diesel/electric, big mistake)... But after I evaded a torpedo it fired back, there were no other enemy contacts in the area. It was playing dead. I intercepted it by luck 30 minutes after as it was heading back to the "search area" he merrily exited while evading torpedoes. Then I waited on its course, 450 meters depht. Waited until it was at 1500 meters. Fired 3x 53 centimeters tropedoes, carefully set to activate quickly. This time he had not a chance. Boom.

After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The engineers read and correct the problem, and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken, and the pilot reviews the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humour. Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as submitted by Qantas pilots and the solution recorded by maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had a fatality.

I flew on a quantas 747 trans-pacific LAX to Sydney. I got plenty of sleep on that flight. I like the airline a lot.

One of my favorites (I had this happen at each command). IFF not functional when switch placed in OFF position.

I wonder if they made a connection through the "FF" and thought that "OFF" was supposed to be an acronym related to "IFF" instead of realizing that it was actually a valid English word.

Or maybe they were just that stupid.

Dangerous Waters, a classic for hardcore simmers.

And yes, the Seawolf is the top of the underwater foodchain. Its flank speed is enough to outrun most torpedoes, and its sensors/electronics are the top of the shelf. The limitation with US subs is that their only torpedo is the Mark 48 ADCAP. While it is a potent weapon, it has its limits.

But the Akula-II can carry the infamous 65 cm torpedo, which isn't (in theory) used in the russian navy anymore since the Kursk wreck (the fuel of the torpedo is very dangerous). That abomination has no equivalent in the western arsenal. I don't use it in the game, that's almost cheating, the thing can run 30 or 40 kilometers ! I've read they even designed (built ?) a nuclear version of the torpedo. :shifty:

A little of both sometimes. Often times pilots would forget to plug the Aircraft pigtail into their helmets. Said pigtail would allow them to do things like, oh I don't know, use the radio and intercom? I lost count of how many times I had to say "Uh sir, for it to work you've got to plug that thing in".
