What's this Netflix thing, and why people are waiting for shows to get released on it instead of having them downloaded back in the last decade or something?

Netflix is a video streaming service. Think Spotify but for series and movies. Also Netflix has gained enough momentum to make its own films and series. Orange is the New Black is one of them, if you've heard of it.

Usually torrenting them used to be the norm back home. Nowadays, many places block torrents , so it's less possible. Streaming still usually works.

In the 90's and early 2000's, piracy used to be the norm in eastern Europe. It wasn't even a choice, since it was often the only way to get Windows and games. There were no vendors. And after vendors appeared, prices were ridiculously high for many years after.

But seriously, how do they argue for it being illegal to share something that is free anyway?

Because it's not free. Anybody can do a public showing, but they need a) a concession and b) the permission of the copyright holder to show it. Both usually cost money.
In turn, the viewers coming to the showing will consume the popcorn/beverages/advertisements of the one showing it.
So, it's not free. You paid something when you watched it on that tv, if only your time to watch ads.

When it was broadcast on TV, money gets made from the sponsors running ads. So it's not really free. Nobody would spend money on actors and a TV show if money wasn't to be made on it.

That's one of my biggest fears. These guys don't take the secondary side seriously enough. Always deferring maintenance and hardly ever giving me the time, money and parts to do things that are needed during an outage.

If it doesn't have zoomies associated with it, it seems management isn't concerned about it.

Have you got a link? My immediate supervisor might be able to use it.

Apparently, it is a word with multiple meanings. I've used both meanings (AFAIK) many times.

I've been called a tron chaser before too - mostly by machinist's mates and electrician mates - and always in a derogatory fashion. I've always worn it as a badge of honor.
