I recently bought the entire box set of Columbo. Falk really brought the character to life and there is still a lot to learn from watching Columbo.

He also had a starring role in the Princess Bride which is a now a cult classic.

He will be missed. RIP Peter Falk.

Always was a fan of the Columbo series. But that's only a small part of his work, of course.

Though I've by no means seen even close to all his work, what stands out to me(other than Columbo) is a great "improvisational" film he made with friends John Cassavetes and Ben Gazzara, called, "Husbands".

And a Wem Wenders film called, "Faraway, So Close", where he plays himself in a quite extended cameo role.

And an old story comes to mind that as a kid playing Little League, after an umpires call he disagreed with, young Peter walked up to the ump, removed his glass eye and handed it to the ump, saying, "Here, you need this more than I do."


One of those truly memorable and one of a kind human beings.

There's a big man there...

2 of the movies, with him in them, I personally cherish very much are:

Griffin and Phoenix: A Love Story (TV 1976)
I've only seen this one once, because it's too strong really. He delivers some of the best acting in this movie I've ever seen anyone do. If there was only 1 oscar in the entire world to give, he gets it for his performance in this movie.

Murder by Death (1976)
This movie is just wonderful. This one I can see again and again.
It features a lot of other great actors as well.

Those 2 movies (and obviously Columbo and other things he's done) very clearly shows how broad his abilities was as an actor. He was so much more than just the cigar-smoking detective we all love.

Believe it or not, I was just talking about Columbo with the missis not five minites ago, wondering why he only made a few new detective episodes. We just watched an animation and his name came up on the credits as a vioce over, starting the conversation. I return to the screen and see this.

We're gutted. We watch Columbo, repeated time and again, everytime because of his manner and presence. That has hollowed me. Very sad news and our thoughts are with his family, him and that rain coat.
