Gemini XIV is at its destination: OFSS III!

Gemini undocked for a short moment form the GATV and took this picture of the OFSS

A day after leaving the OFSS it's time to make preparations to come home. Undocking from the GATV!

Another day later it's time to come home. Retro ignition!

Ouh, it's hot outside..

Almost splashdown.. welcome home Gemini XIV!

After the successful Gemini XIV mission, NASA, ESA, Roscosmos and the Italian space agency have announched that they are going to work together to go back to the moon. An Energia-M will take the first step tomorrow: the launch of a satellite that will go into polar orbit around the moon to search for landing sites.

"Moon with a view"

Played around with Scenario editor. I zoomed out and rotated the camera, used the ground observer camera and selected "Current". Then I placed the probe (that came with UCGO) at those coordinates.

A toast to the CTV developers for creating such a great add on!

(I'll upload some Wallpaper resolutions later. If you all like it. )

I used only Gimp, the contrast is supposed to be high. It's actually just colour saturation to make the Earth appear brighter, and the atmosphere lighter.

Thanks.

I'll make a lower colour saturated version, or a toned down version with the wallpaper package.

Yesterday, at 12:00 UTC, an Enrgia-M lifted off from Baikonour. It launched a small satellite that will orbit the moon in a polar orbit and it will search and take pictures of possible landing sites for manned missions.

Staging! Energia-M left the fregat in an high orbit. The fregat is now in a coast phase and after a couple of hours it will burn its engine to push Proba towards the moon

Fregat well underway in its burn to the moon. Only 30 seconds remaining in this burn

Next launch: 3 Modified TDRS satellites to form a small constellation of relay satellites around the moon

CTV Wallpapers

Here is the link to the wallpaper package I promised.

A set of different resolutions for your personal choice. They range from low to HD, and I included one HD version with low colour saturation for Columbia42;)

In an alternate 1975 where NASA's Integrated Program Plan recieved full funding a Re-usable NERVA booster rendezvouses with the Core-A and Power Modules of NASA's Orbiting Lunar Outpost. (In reality this mission is a test flight of a DLL of my RNS addon, specifically stack management and the ability to handle asymetrical payloads)

The sun sets over Australia as NERVA makes the first of four planned burns.

Burn complete (ignore the "0.00% propellant remaining" the gauge is broken)

Cruise Phase, all systems (other than fuel gauge) are operating at 100%.

36 hours later NERVA fires again to perform mid-course correction and establish a polar inclination.

Arrival in lunar orbit. cue theme music!

After verifying that all module subsystems are functioning normally and that a stable orbit has been established ground controllers instruct the booster to undock. Upon reaching a safe distance NERVA will fire again, placing it on a earth return trajectory where it will rendezvous with an INT-21 bearing a hab-module, additional propellant, and the CSM/crew of Apollo XXVI.

The orbiting outpost represents NASA's first steps towards permenant Lunar habitation as it's polar orbit will allow it's crew to conduct a detailed survey of the entire lunar surface and select the most promising site for a surface base.

Had some big storms here the past couple of days. A couple of towns in Groningen were evacuated because of the high water levels..

Anyway, nice picture! Nice to see the Netherlands from space :P

In the circle is where I live ;)

We liggen in Flevoland maar we horen inderdaad met veel dingen bij Utrecht :P (aah Limburg, daar ben ik een paar keer op vakantie geweest, mooie streek :P)

My hometown lies originally in Flevoland but with many things we are considered as part of Utrecht :P (aah Limburg, I've been there on vacation for a couple of time :P)

Successfully landed Eridanus (STP-ER-0) today :)
