Nice sepia effect!
A Maintfury operator inspects the new and improved, shinier shield panels on the EAS Cortez.
Specular reflections added to some of the materials in the mesh of the Cortez. Will update on OH soon, after a few other tweaks.
Work on the Maintfury also continues, thought at a gradual pace.

My return to flight mission since my whole orbiter partition was deleted: IapetusOrbiter. IapetusOrbiter will orbit Iapetus and gather data for a manned expedition to this moon..

It's so hot, it's white-hot:
Peak heating during a 65km PeA aerobraking pass from TEI for 45 seconds. Velocity in was 11.6 km/sec; velocity out was 10.2 km/sec.
Also broke a record (and an XR5) during the reentry phase after I FUBARed the translation burn. This was at 52 km up, at Mach 18.2.

Luna-Apparat I (N1-L3) with Alexei Leonov, Vladimir Shatalov and Pyotr Klimuk launch toward the Moon. This will mark the first Soviet cosmonaut on the Moon since the previous mission (Luna-Orbita XII with Vladimir Komarov and Aleksandr Serebrov orbited the Moon).
Leonov will become the third man (after Apollo XI) and the first Soviet on the Moon, Klimuk will join him on the surface in the Lunniy Korabl (LK) while Shatalov will remain in the Lunniy Orbitalny Korabl (LOK).
The launch date is on the 25th October 1969 on the anniversary of the October Revolution, it will take four days for the L3 stack to reach the Moon. Landing is planned at the 100 hour mark, which should be on the 29th October.
It's a great day for launch; The N1 rocket takes off from a specially designed pad:
Tower clear!

On the way to the Moon:
Entering Earth eclipse area, Moon is in sight:

Revisited the World of 2001 today. I flew a Mars/cargo/HerculesIc mission, with a little twist. I loaded all 11 attachment points with a Landmod and a box cargo (6 BoxMaersk, 5 TankAL2), with the intention to fling them to Mars, return the Hercules back to StationV and then go and land them all near Port Lowell.
The problem was that the darn thing was so heavy, that it took 11 Perigee kicks to be able to leave Earth. Here is how it looks like when you combine all the burns:
