I came to think about possible situations that could happen in an orbiter universe.

You live in a colony on Mars. There is a war on Earth and you remain isolated, and if you do not come back to Earth for supplies or find an alternate solution, your mates at base will die.

Because comms base was blasted, you have no way to communicate.
Any ideas on what you could do to get those supplies?

Well, first off you would have to get some form of communication, albeit morse code, or something. Depends on the resources that you have at hand.

Then after you try and fail at that, you could build a rocket, depends on resources, but Mars, has rocks, and well.... rocks. Ever thought about a Rock Rocket? Depends on what else too. Maybe some CO2 but you would need a fuel. On the moon you could convert rocks to fuel, but that takes some refining.

All depends on what resources you currently have.

Let's imagine you are at Olympus base... as it appears in Orbiter.

It depends on too many things. Assuming they have a Mars Ascent stage and Mars Ejection stage, they could (if they can co-ordinate a launch independent of Earth comms) plan a trip using their computers, launch and fly themselves back to Earth.

Unless there's a steady flow of automated supply ships headed their way, their only option is to return to Earth. If they are able to get back to Earth and re-enter safely, they have to hope they land someone close to civilisation, not in hostile nation (if the World is at war..), and not in the ocean.

But still, a 'what would they do' proposition is fairly difficult to ponder as there are so many things we don't know about their situation.

We've no idea about rockets, fuel levels, consumable, flight windows, systems automation, navigation computers. If the computers on their ship can't compute a return flight on their own, they're screwed.

In order of likeliness, though:

1. Their supplies run out and they die.
2. They attempt to return to Earth and die.
3. They return to Earth, land in the ocean, starve and die.
4. They return to Earth and hope the jeeps coming over the horizon are that of friendly nations.

Land on Earth desert, which is like a hot Mars, and die...

Land in a volcano and all so die

Or they could steal the Heart of Gold and make a run for it using their Improbability Drive.

What suplies could they possibly need? I mean, a Mars Base would have to be very self-sufficient. They would have to have hydroponics, it's a lot cheaper growing the stuff up there than flying it over.

The only thing that could get a problem is water, but the location of the base would have been set near an ice field anyways. I think they should be able to make it through at least ten years. Of course the cigars and the bordeaux would run out, but they'll just have to do without it.

Who wants to flee INTO the third world war anyways? survival probabilites on Mars would be higher!

Wasn't there an user story about an Saturn-Earth war in the M6 board? Maybe something like that could happen (A colony leader attacks his home planet).
