As some of you may or may not have noticed, there has been a slight update to the Orbit Hangar Mods web site. I would just like to use this thread to overview some of the new features offered by the site as well as have an open discussion for anyone who may have any ideas or criticisms of the new site.

First, the good stuff:
Add-on descriptions are now searchable. This is possible by either using the "Quick Search" on the main page or the OHM browser search plugin (both of these search for your query against all add-on names, descriptions, and authors). You can also use the "Advanced Search" section on the Search page and specify to search by add-on descriptions.

The Top25 page has now been replaced by a "Most Wanted Files" page. This page displays the 50 most downloaded add-ons of Yesterday, Last Week, Last Month, and All Time. Currently the site only has sufficient data for Yesterday and a few days prior, so the Last Week page won't be entirely accurate for a few more days. Also the Last Month page won't be accurate until a month or so from now.

One other feature which has always been available, but perhaps not in such an obvious capacity is the ability to "browse" add-ons. Just like many people, I often don't want to look for anything specific, but rather just browse what is available. Now there is a menu link on the left side of the page called "Browse". This page lists all main add-on categories and allows you to view all add-ons in those categories in list format from either newest to oldest or oldest to newest. There is also an option for each category to "Browse Visually". This option will take you to the add-on gallery page for that category, displaying all add-ons which have images associated with them for that category.

The F.A.Q. page is still a work in progress. There were just a few extremely obvious questions that I hope to never receive in e-mails again. That's more or less what is currently on that page at the moment.

The new layout/colors:
Yes, the layout is here to stay. The color options (you can select from 3 different color themes at the moment, Grey, Dark, and Light) are open to changes and additions if anyone would like to help out with these, please let me know.

Caveats:
Yes, the site looks very different. This may be frightening, exciting, and/or make you generally upset. In the event that you do not like the new layout, take a minute. Look at it again, and hopefully realize that it is the exact same site with the same functionality as before and then some. Nothing has been sacrificed for this update.

Bugs/Weird:
If you encounter any bugs on the new site, please let me know as soon as possible!

Known Issues:
No, I have not yet converted the "User Gallery" page to the new layout. That's on the to-do list.

Merry Christmas.

Very nice. One thing I noticed is that when using the "dark" color scheme, the links which have already been visited are too close to the background color to see. Also, when browsing visually, I don't see any pictures, am I supposed to?

Great job, Vash. The Obitinauts are fortunate to have such a website instead of having to rely on AvSim.

:) it's a lot better than the old one :) I like it :)

Thanks.

I had a lot of trouble trying to work out good link colors for the "dark" color scheme. If you have any suggestions, I'm very open on that front. I spent 45 minutes trying to get it right and ended up just leaving those as is. :P

As far as not being able to see any pictures when browsing visually... yes, you should be able to see pictures. Try clearing your cache out and reloading the page. If that doesn't cause them to load, do me a favor and take a look at the source code. Find one of the images in there... eg. <img src="thumbnails/STAR.jpg"> and try to access that image directly and see if it will load or if you get an error.

Very nicely done. Thank you for your continued hard work and support of the Orbiter community; too often we fail to thank those who work the hardest and support us.

Wow! What a Merry Christmas!

Change is change...but this one, IMO, was a nice one.

Perhaps I missed it, but I don't see any log out option.

:speakcool::cheers:

Looks great! But I'm also having problems when browsing visually. It seems to load the pictures but doesn't show them. I'll try it out in Firefox now.

Once you're logged in, the various account pages show up on the right-hand side of the page. Logout is the last link listed there. If you have gone somewhere else in the site while logged in, you would have to click on the "My Account" link to get the account page links back on the right-hand side. Granted, this isn't very intuitive at the moment. I'll look into different options for making that part a little better.

Oh, this seems to be a recently developed Internet Explorer thing. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I'll look into it and fix it as soon as possible.

Crisis averted. The "Browse Visually" function should work fine for IE users now.

Vash:

The new site works great in Firefox...I've had no problems.

I love the new site! One thing I noticed that wasn't mentioned is that on addon pages, the page title now shows the name of the addon, instead of just "Search Results".

Well, in the "grey" and "light" schemes the visited links appear to be a darkish blue color, that ought to work against the background in the "dark" scheme, too, wouldn't it?

Don't worry about it, though. It's just a nitpick. The site looks fine with the grey scheme to me. Again, thanks for the work.

Great job Vash! I love the new browse visually option we talked about. Really nice work! Works fine for me as well in Firefox and everything seems to be fully functional. One thing I'd recommend is adding a link to Doug's site on the Related Sites page.

Thanks for all your hard work!

Nice looking site, Vash, I envy your web design skills. :)
