Updates New boy around the Red Planet - the 2013 Indian Mars Orbiter update thread!

Live broadcast:

MOM has entered retrograde attitude before the MOI burn. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now visiting ISRO's control center - I hope that means good luck... :shifty:

It sounds like the MOI burn was just confirmed to have started successfully.

Yeah, not good to be embarrassed in front of the boss. Transmission is good though. Wish them luck, considering the score is 23 failures for 42 attempts so far.

Looks like joy all around! Success on first attempt.

Well, I was worrying more about MOM and all its instruments surviving around Mars for at least 1 Earth year.....

But hey, you are around Mars now!

India has become the first independent country to reach Mars successfully on its first attempt. That's quite an achievement but India has the benefit of 50 years of failures to learn from.

Maybe the spacecraft can try aerobraking to reduce its apoapsis and gather bonus information on the upper atmosphere in the future.

I must say that I was really excited when I heard this wile driving to work. Congrats ISRO!

Is that streaks on the surface or motion blur ?
