Can you post the Orbiter.log?

Is the problem reoccurring? (Does it crash every time, or will it work sometimes and not work other times)

Did you make sure you installed wideawake properly? Has it ever worked after you installed wideawake?

Hi Bj,
Thanks for your response.
Where do I find the Oribiter .log to post it?
It crashes every time when I click on tgt,,then the popup menu displays , then I click on spaceports and it crashes. I have used this before I installed wideawake and it never crashed.
The first time I installed wideawake when I launched the scenario it crashed, then I went through the installation again and found I had made an error in the earth config file so I then went step by step and chaeked everything again. Then it launched fine. So far everytime I get to the mapMFD and try to click on tgt/spaceports it crashed. I just tried a new approach and If I just click on tgt and then type in wideawake international and enter then the mapMFD shows wideawake and it continues working without crashing. Maybe I should not try to click and pull up the spaceports menu.

Please forgive me if I am doing something wrong, I'm still learning how to use this stuff :)

Once again thanks for the help in advance.

Go to your main Orbiter directory and it looks like this.

correct me if I am wrong, but you shouldn't need to edit the earth.cfg file, you should just extract all the files and place them within the orbiter folder preserving folder directory.

Hi Bj
I tried to follow all the instructions in the manual and Step 3 and 4 said the following:

STEP 3. - Activate custom textures
Open the Base.cfg file in the Orbiter Config folder and add the list below into the
file’s texture list.
Copy the list and paste it between BEGIN_TEXTURES and END_TEXTURES.
roof_blue
roof_fan
roof_hangar
wall_corr
wall_door
wall_door_n
wall_hq
wall_hq_n
wall_logo
wall_logo_n
wall_obs
wall_obs_n
wall_office
wall_offwin
wall_offwin_n
wall_plant
wall_window
wall_window_n
concretetex
STEP 4. - *OPTIONAL functions* - The following are optional extras that
you may wish to add to the base
Observation Points
To add fixed observation points to the base, open Config/Earth.cfg then copy &
paste the following lines after the BEGIN_OBSERVER line:
WIN:Tower: -14.425918 -7.963578 110
WIN:VAB: -14.436325 -7.969488 220
WIN:GPLP: -14.426174 -7.967410 25
WIN:Airport: -14.413447 -7.955028 85
WIN:Runway12R: -14.431959 -7.958898 10
WIN:Mountain: -14.351229 -7.941256 1281
Navigation Beacons
To update the Island's Navigation Beacons, open Config/Earth.cfg. In the
BEGIN_NAVBEACON section, search for the line:
VOR ASI -14.3967 -7.9697 112.20 270 ; ASCENSION AUX AF
and replace it with:
VOR WIN -14.43 -7.95 113.00 1000 ; WIDEAWAKE INTERNATIONAL

so I did it, should I not have done step 4 because it is optional.
maybe that is what I did wrong?
Thanks again for the help.

Hi Kevin,

Sorry to see you are having problems with something that could be Wideawake related. I've not come across this bug before with Ascension, so I don't think it is the base causing the problem. Since mapmfd is a standard release mfd I'm sure it would have occured during testing of the base, or at least after release... but perhaps you are the unfortunate first!

So, I'm not quite sure how I can help you other than suggest the normal course of orbiter debuging operation: Try a clean install with just Wideawake, see if you still get the error. Then reinstall each additonal addon you use until it happens again...

I would be keen to see this resolved in case it is my addon causing the problem and it can be rectified. Let me know if you get this sorted or make any debugging progress.

Good Luck.

Hi wehaveaproblem,
Thanks for the response. I will do as you say and will test it again. Just so you know, I installed Wideawake, Autopilot MFD and a few other bases and scenarios just after one another so I will have to do them one by one to see which one is messing up. I will keep you posted on my progress. More than likely I did something wrong when installing something.
Appreciate you willingness to help,
Have a great week.

Wehaveaproblem,
Just wanted to give you a little update on my progress.
I reinstalled orbiter and tested each MFD and found the problem and solution.
Installed, DGIV,AerobrakeMFD, BasesyncMFD, Wideawake International and made a backup of the new base.cfg and earth.cfg files. I ran Oribiter with no problems when using mapMFD. I then installed AutopilotMFD and mapMFD would crash when selecting spaceports pulldown menu. I then copied the backed up earth.cfg and base.cfg files back into the orbiter/ config folder (because AutopilotMFD overwrites them) and now it is working perfectly again.
Thanks so much for your help it is appreciated. Thanks also for Wideawake International which is an excellent addon.
Now the challenge is to try landing on your runway without killing all innocent poeple involved :)
Collateral Damage should not be Spaceflight Terminology :)
regards
Kevin

I knew that problem would be cause by that MFD. AUtopilot MFD is notorious for replacing your earth CFG because it was made for Orbiter 2005
