I haven't tried the newer versions of LOLA, only the original unfinished release, but one of the problems with the Lunar Space Shuttle is that the LSS has very weak "main" thrusters compared to the powerful "hover" jets. The main thrusters are designed for maneuvering in lunar orbit, where lower thrust is required and easier to get control of when setting up rendezvous, while the hovers are meant for the heavy lifting of launches and landings. The hovers are also deliberately overpowered in order to deal with engine loss during critical phases of flight (if one shuts down, the opposite automatically cuts off to maintain near-symmetric thrust and the vehicle must continue with two engines, this is implied but not modeled with spacecraft3, of course).

LOLA, upon trying to launch, uses the hover jets just enough to get off the landing pad, then pitches the vehicle up and attempts to make orbit using the main jets. For the DG, which is what LazyD probably had in mind, this makes perfect sense, but for a weak main-engined craft like the LSS it means the vehicle will crash to the ground as soon as the hovers are shut down.
 
Alright,cool it worked, landed at HeinLein BSE pad 1 perfectly,I followed the way the pic looked as best as I could,and low,and behold we have a winner,Thanks to Mandella,Liber,and Andy44 for all the input.:thumbup:

Has anybody gotten the Ascend to Rendezvous AP to work?I can"t figure this one out,I start the AP out it gets to the time of launch,the engines fire,and then nothing the ship just sits there.What gives?

What ship are you using and from what base and to what satellite? I might have time in a few hours to give it a try and see if I can figure it out. But just like the autoland function the ascend can be pretty picky. For instance, when running up to the launch time, does the (and I am working from memory here) orbital offset numbers go red? That means that Lola can't work a solution for this orbit, and for some reason Lola can't figure this out until about two minutes from the projected launch time. You'll just have to wait for another orbit, or adjust the orbit of the satellite or craft you are trying to rendezvous with.

It's also possible that Lola is firing the wrong engines, but that is usually only a problem if you have a tailsitter that also has hovers.
 
OK,Mandella,and thanks for the help,I am using the LSTS231,just like I did using the landing AP,and I am launching to Greg Burches C3 space station,oh,and yes the numbers turn red before launch time.I did wait for another orbit,and thats when the ship fired once,and just sat there.
 
Did it turn red on the next orbit? Also, how high is the C3? (You might just want to post your scenario file.)

Also, and it might not help you here but with Burch's craft and low lunar gravity nothing says you can't use the hover engines to pick up and "scoot" sideways to position yourself under the drifting target orbit, then activate your autopilot of choice for the final ascent.

Only had time to jump in for a quick look, but from what I can see C3 never directly passes over the LSTS2312, so no direct ascent is possible using Lola. You're going to have to either move the station, the landing position, take a short hop to the equator, or just lift to a transfer orbit and adjust the inclination.

I'll play with this one some more later tonight. Got to run now.

Just did a successful ascent, but there's something I forgot to tell you: you are going to have to modify some of Burch's files.

As Lola takes you up, as soon as it gets lined up and some altitude using the hovers, it tilts back and tries to fire the mains. Of course, the 231's "mains" are really just attitude adjusters, so the 231 falls back to the ground.

The trick is to open up the LSTS231's .ini file and comment or outright delete the MAIN=10000 line. Get rid of the RETRO line too. It doesn't have them, and keeping them in there only confuses programs trying to find the assorted engines.

Next trick is that Lola's Rendezvous from the ground only gets you off the ground and headed in the right direction, then shuts off. Don't panic. The screen you are looking at should have a "Rendezvous with C3" line. Choose it and Lola should be all right all the rest of the way.

Lola is ... quirky. You're going to have to hand it simple problems, and there are certainly bugs still in the code. Wish I were good enough at C++ to fix them, but alas, that may never be.

Using the Rendezvous from Launch seems to be bugged at the braking phase. No matter! Just keep an eye on your orbit, and when it crosses your target either manually correct to your target's orbit, or use one of the other Autopilot MFDs. IMFD can circularize to a target, and then [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1199"]Rendezvous[/ame] can close and [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3165"]Attitude[/ame] can exactly match.

Another neat trick that gets around Lola's fairly narrow launch window (only 16 kilometers wide) is to wait until the best window you have and 1) manually launch to a low orbit, then use Lola as above to match to your target, or 2) just launch straight up about ten kilometers, *then* hand it off to Lola and pray! (Better keep an eye on your instruments -- Lola will still happily put you into a ground intersecting orbit, or even worse right to Nan-space.)

Are there any tutorials on how to use this? Because after I register a ship, and Engage it, I get a CTD. This is with the stock dg.

I have couple of same problem with lola,most time it's happen if I'm not align with base,align with lola 1st.
Don't land on a body with atmosphere with lola. :)

I was landing on the moon and was perfectly aligned with the base and had slowed way down. I think I'll just uninstall it and use base sync. That was working fine.
