Howdy,
I've been trying to beat my own record flying from KSC, Florida to Wideawake International on Ascension Island. By means of a hypersonic scram flight at around 45km, I've been able to make the trip in 53 minutes and 22 seconds.
Admittedly, though, I have been -- for the sake of roleplay -- keeping the flight as smooth as possible - not letting any one G bar get above 2.5.
The obvious, quicker route would be to launch targeting orbit over Wideawake, but cutting off the MEs when your ballistic trajectory is set to drop you over Ascension. However I've found that -- even from 100km -- the ensueing re-entry path is too steep and the XR2 burns up. So to me it seems that a hypersonic, atmoshperic flight is the most prudent.
See what you can do, if you like. Would be interesting just how fast a trip akin to an Atlantic crossing can be done using rocket-tech.
I'll try another attempt now. As fast as I can manage with no regard for my poor co-pilot.
