Hey

im new to orbiter and was wondering how/ where to place the files from addons into the orbiter folder. do i just extract the addon directly to the orbiter folder? i have tryed placing the files in the folders they match to, but when i start them it has a critical error and closes. if anyone would be awesome enough to walk me through this it would be greatly appreciated! :sos:

Generally speaking, yes. You extract the files, then drop the folders into your orbiter game directory, maintaining the folder structure.

However, also be aware that some addons require other addons to work, or require a module to be started... some even have installer apps.

Check in the Doc or Docs folder to see if the mod comes with any manual or installation instructions that might help you further.

You should try JSGME, it is a MOD enabler originally developped for Silent Hunter 3, but it works for all your games. Instead of extract all in your main Orbiter directory, you have to extract in a new subfolder of a defined folder.
After that, you have to enable and disable what addons you want, and that's it. I found it very useful because I wonder why load Mars lvl14 textures just for a simple ISS flight ?
Download this and extract "JSGME.exe" and "JSGME.ini" in your main Orbiter folder. Then start it after you have installed your addons in the defined folder. To automatise JSGME and Orbiter launches, you can download my JSGME Orbiter launcher.

EDIT: I just found a newer and more flexible JSGME. I will update my JSGME_OL.

I had to download a lot of add-ons today. Hopefully this'll help:

1.) Download an add-on from the internet.
2.) Move the add-on to your desktop.
3.) Right click the file and press "extract".
4.) Set the folder to which it will extract as your orbiter location. (For example, mine is on my desktop in a folder called "Orbiter 2010 New." All my addons get extracted to that folder.)
5.) Have fun, because you're done!
