Gaming Hielor's Minecraft Server

"As the Minecraft Server software is included in CraftBukkit..."

It is? Then why do I need to have the minecraft server downloaded alongside CraftBukkit?

As I understand it, the Minecraft server itself is not included. Decompiled snippets generated from the server binary, however, are. These are technically bootleg, but Mojang has not brought (and seems unlikely to intend to bring) legal action against the developers of CraftBukkit, so their use is in a legal gray area. Meanwhile, Mojang apparently owns the trademarks to Bukkit, but not the copyright to the code (which remains with each individual developer), and apparently employs some of the Bukkit developers (but apparently doesn't pay them to work on Bukkit. I'm not entirely sure of the ins and outs of the employment situation here).

Mojang does not seem, from what I see, to have any obligation under the GPL to release any Minecraft server sources, as they haven't contributed to the project directly. The CraftBukkit project does, but can't comply with that obligation, as they don't have access to the source.

If Wolfe knew when he started contributing to CraftBukkit that it included decompiled Minecraft server code, it seems to me that a court would probably throw his case out on the basis of [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clean_hands"]unclean hands[/ame], but IANAL.

In any case, using the DMCA to enforce the GPL does not strike me as consistent with the principles of the GPL (pretty much everyone that advocates for the GPL hates the DMCA with a passion).

1.9 will be the final release of "Minecraft 1," at which point a new version will be developed. However, this new version, despite being marketed as "Minecraft 2", will feature an internal version number of 1.9.1 in order to avoid compatibility problems with programs developed for Minecraft 1.

(this is a joke, btw)

I run several Minecraft services, rumors on the inside is that they are looking to rebrand the game for MS compliance. Some names in consideration:

- Minecraft CE
- Minecraft ME
- Minecraft Vista

To date no decisions have been made, but all indications suggest that MS will use their past experience in user experience development to fantastically reposition Minecraft to grow into the successful, stable platform which it has yet to become!

(humor)

Luckily for MS, Minecraft's blocky, colorful theme fits in great with Windows 8...

...should there be news about the server?

Is it broken again?

I was playing on it some week ago for 3 days in a row just fine, however nobody else logged in during that time.

Everything looked and worked fine, except that my new portal linked to Artlav's and because of that it's one way (I need to move it some 50 blocks lower on the Nether side).

The server is fine. It's just stuck on 1.7.9 for the time being.

New worlds are fairly easy to create, technically speaking--it's just a matter of what the server population wants.

And yeah, Bukkit hasn't updated to 1.8 yet, so the server's stuck on 1.7.9. Should probably wait at least for 1.8 before discovering a new world.

2.5 BILLION dollars.

Micro$oft plz. Don't screw it over.

Goodbye users. Suffer the consequences of the new Minecraft 8

now in 2D and with hideous colors!

Hm?
Which one was it?

2.5 BILLION dollars.
What a suckers.
Don't they know it only cost 20 euros? :)

Just was wondering if the " new world " idea was still going on.
Well, there was a survival world made some time ago, and it is still pretty much unused.

To completely reset the server now will see a slight burst of activity, followed by a full nil - the minecraft boom is already over, i supposed.

Hm?
Which one was it?
Overworld around x:-1550, z:5670 (from dynmap - I don't have the exact coordinates at this moment). My portal is around -1700, 5350 (in a desert temple on taiga-desert border).

I didn't think there would be another portal around that far from the commune, so I've made mine in Nether right under the ceiling. It works fine when I want to go to the desert temple, but to go back without losing myself in Nether's wilderness I need to go by boat to the Winter Island.

I think I'll simply extend the Winter Island line in Nether (rather without using so much glass, but stone bricks instead) to the same x, z coordinates under my portal and I'll build a return portal there. It should be some 40-50 blocks to your portal, so I can make a safe passage to it using stone bricks, too.

But that rather won't be in this week, as I have currently much work IRL.

Welp, there goes my secret mining operations (aka diamond farm)... :)

I do remember wondering if anyone will ever stumble across it, or any of the little easter eggs i left behind during the Far SouthWest Expedition.
