Pretty much all of Bosnia is an oddity in google maps... There's practically no roads in there!

google tried a system to remove people from the streetview...operative word being TRIED.
personally, ive been sitting in my yard in i chewbacca costume for three months now waiting for the google maps car......................WHERE ARE THEY?

I've seen a Google Streetview car, but it was not taking any pictures. The mast was in the folded down position. If it was up I would have just probably waved.

oddities or interesting things in Google Maps/Streetview.

The first picture is of LARPers. There used to be a group near my house, but the farmer's market that got started displaced them.

I forgot finding this one!

Q) How do you get Streetview images quickly in a packed out tourist attraction like the Eden Project?

I found a video of them using the same thing at SeaWorld:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNOsD65d_uQ

Plus if you compare the pictures from the video with the streetview pictures, you can see the chronology of it. I'm actually suprised that more people weren't jumping up and trying to get in the picture - I would have done!!

I don't think anyone can top this one off:

[edit]

It doesn't seem to show properly, here is the link:
Code:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=64.923542,108.984375&spn=0,344.882813&z=2&layer=c&cbll=60.916761,101.949712&cbp=12,297.16,,0,10.83&photoid=po-31762408

Now that's interesting. I couldn't do Streetview using ...maps.com, perhaps you guys in the US can't do Streetview using ...maps.co.uk?

I certainly can. :P Plopped a streetview person randomly in London.
Or if you meant the other way around, I can do it in US too.

One here in my hometown has taken the cake. I fear to even post the link, you can find it for yourself.

When I first got an iPhone 3 years ago, it was more of a novelty than it is now with more iPhone models and mountains of Android knock offs. I had shown street view to my sister, and she directed me to a friend of hers who was at this party. Turns out the guy was the one who drove the streeview car around this area. He told me about how Google paid, and how the system worked. It was pretty much idiot proof. You just drive around in sunny weather between 9am and 4pm at any speed and the system snapped the photos automatically. Every so often the drive would fill up and he'd swap out a new blank one. I read an article about the system they developed to create street view... it's quite amazing how it all works. Personally, I can't wait for Apple's new 3D map system on the iPhone. I must say, Google maps has been one of the most used and favorite apps on my iPhone, and it'll be weird to "loose" Google maps on my iPhone. I have full faith though that the new system Apple is running will be just as good, and better. When the iPhone was first under development, Apple struck a deal with Google to have Google run the back end, and Apple the front (with their own app... Google Maps), and it proved to be a great success. Now that things have soured between Apple and Google it's only smart for Apple to "fill in the gap" that they previously filled with Google. Google maps isn't entirely gone though from iPhone. All models from 1st through iPhone 4 will still carry Google Maps, and Google and Apple recently resigned a 5 year deal for Google Maps rights for Apple. All iPhones prior to 4s will continue to sport Google Maps, and iPhone 4s forward are going to bear the new Apple Maps.
