F1 2012 GP Australia Melbourne

Germany will be among the middle field I would say... no really special candidate, but also no bad candidate.

Bets on a winner?

Mercedes-Benz and McLaren look like they have solid cars. Ferrari... we'll see.

I knew I shouldn't have mixed F1 with the Eurovision Song Contest, now I'm confused!

If we're talking about formula one:

I'm kinda excited about that season, Lotus (former Renault) was good in the test trials, but last year they also started good and in the end they were somewhere around 10-15. I'm really excited how Kimi Räikkönen will drive, on the one hand he is a great driver, maybe one of the best in the field, on the other hand he has been away for some years, so everything is possible, I fear he will become 2nd Schumacher (came back and is constantly losing against Rosberg).
Force India, Williams, Sauber and Torro Rosso also scored some good times, would be a huge surprise if one of them would be able to drive for the podium.
But my bet for the season is Red Bull with Vettel. Vettel is a great driver, who is able to develop a car and get out the maximum of it and Adrian Newey is THE mastermind, I'm sure he has some feature in the Red Bull that no one else have.
My top 5 would be: Vettel and Webber because of a great car and great drivers, Jenson Button because he can handle the tires best (let's see what Pirelli made this year), Nico Rosberg because Mercedes produced a good car and he is a good driver. #5 is a hard decision, Hamilton, Schumacher? Or is the Lotus really that good, so Grosjean/Räikönnen? Or is the trouble that Ferrari had not that bad?

Agreed with that MattBaker, though I may have a slight national bias....! and what happened to Kubica?

N.

He has still problems with his hand and additionally he broke his leg in January, I think there is no comeback this season and if he could ever become as successfull as he was before is another question. Actually sad, great driver and also a great personality:(

I agree, sad to hear to isn't fit. I always thought he had a good chance.

Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher set the pace in a damp second practice at the Australian Grand Prix after McLaren topped the first.

The seven-time champion, whose team are tipped to challenge in 2012, pipped fellow German Nico Hulkenberg's Force India right at the end of the session.

Earlier in the day, in a drier session, Jenson Button beat McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton by 0.245secs.

Drying track through both sessions I wouldn't read to much in those times

Red Bull has sand bagged before in practice, plus drying track and a green track makes it tough to gauge the true pace of the teams. Time will tell. Maybe MS will finally get a win or at least a podium finish!

Jenson Button wins Australian Grand Prix for McLaren
McLaren's Jenson Button dominated the season-opening Australian Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton finished third.

Button, who qualified second to his team-mate, beat him into the first corner and pulled away to win.

Hamilton lost second place to Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel after an unlucky break with a safety car, and the German was able to hold him off.

Red Bull's Mark Webber was fourth, ahead of the surprisingly quick Ferrari of Fernando Alonso.

Williams driver Pastor Maldonado was on course to take a close sixth, but he lost control while chasing Alonso on the last lap and crashed at the Turn Seven kink.
