I'm working on a new Shuttle Fleet Expansion Pack that will have all of the previous Hubble servicing missions with historically accurate orbital elements (including the initial STS-31 mission) and I'm stuck. The only available Hubble Models I have are the default HST that comes with Orbiter, and the STS-125 model that I have already included in the expansion pack series so far. Neither model has the original solar arrays, and when I downloaded the model from NASA's 3D model resource site, it doesn't translate into a mesh file very clean. I really don't want to have another add-on dependancy (people are already picky enough about the third-party add-on requirements), so my question is this: will you, the end users, be okay with just using the models already available, or do you have a suggestion for a third-party add-on of the original HST that you are willing to download?

David,

Personally I'm perfectly happy with the STS-125 model !
Question for you though, Any chance of integrating some sort of middeck (like the middeck from shuttle SSU) to enhance your fleet ?

Other than that keep up the great work !.

By the way, what are you planning on doing once the shuttle retires?

I've got no problems with the current version either. Once the shuttle retires you may want to look into things that were planned but not carried out....

One idea, I'll throw out as well, in the Novel, "Night Launch" the shuttle Endeavour is launched unnamed after someone hijacks shuttle Discovery, perhaps this could be included as a naming option (for Endeavour only) in the next version of the Shuttle Fleet.

I've given that some consideration, and even more immediately, what to do when the new version of Orbiter comes out. I've been checking the new betas, and with the necessary re-compliation involved in all my various add-ons, and the changes in the cockpit view (mfds, upper left corner info, etc.) I don't see porting my add-ons beyond the current version of Orbiter. SSU and Thorton's ISS will be available, and with the newer Orbiter, I most likely will retire from major add-on development before the shuttle retires! Right now, I make incremental changes to suit things I want to do, and I'll continue to release packages, but they will only be for Orbiter 2006 P1. As I approach my real retirement (2 years, fingers crossed...) I have less time for development. I'm enjoying flying various shuttle missions, and working on RNDZ, Approach, and docking. Everything I want from Orbiter is available with this version and I'll stick with it.

Did you ask DaveS already? AFAIR, he had done a recent Hubble mesh, that looks pretty good.

And promise me that you don't retire before SSU is eventually really finished...which is sometime around 2150. Would be a while until we can fill the gap that the Shuttle Fleet would leave.

Yes, this one:

But it along with everything else that I had done this year(2009) was lost is the great HDD crash a few months ago. I'm in process of recreating it now the few bits and pieces that was saved and scattered around online.

I did find Daves' previous Hubble packages on AVSIM, but again, I don't want to have people have to download additional packages. Dave, can I use your previous meshes?

And Dennis, thanks for the kind words about the Fleet. I'm not sure there's gap to be filled here, SSU is doing quite well. I won't retire anytime soon, I just won't be upgrading the code beyond Orbiter 2006. Thanks,

Dave

Do you mean the one I'm working on now? Sure, I plan to offer it as a new default HST as I'm not too happy with the current one.

For the time being you might want to take a look on this HST: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2982"]Hubble Space Telescope v2.0 (servicable)[/ame]
It comes with the old SAs and they're removable.

I looked at that add-on, but again I'm trying to stay away from having users have to download another add-on to make the package work. I've received enough grief about that with regards to the ISS...

I'm talking about several packages on AVSIM that you uploaded some time back. They appear to have the original SAs, but I'm still working on the files for all the HST missions with actual orbital elements using the default HST. I'll release the package just using that model if need be...

Sure, if you think they suit your needs.

Hey David,

Any chance before the Shuttle retires ( and you retire) of completing your fleet with the addition of a mid-deck ?
SSU has incorperated a mid-deck into their shuttle version and I think to do your fleet justice it would be a great addition to complete the fleet with a mid-deck.

Thanks

I've edited the title of this thread as all I was soliciting was feedback on a planned Hubble expansion pack, not general requests for the Shuttle Fleet. With the pending release of the new Orbiter, the shuttle fleet will be retired most-likely ahead of the real thing as I've stated previously. I have no major features planned in the near-term as real-world commitments have limited my Orbiter time to just scenario generation and flying rendezvous simulations with the Hubble.

Dave

It is soo hard to believe that you are leaving your outstanding addons on 2006 and you retire... :O

By the way... if you can't develop anymore... so open the code under open-source GPL license and i'm sure somewho will more lucky in porting it to Orbiter 2010.

Please don't kill that project :0 It's like deorbiting ISS in the next year.

Folks, the shuttle fleet is David413's work and his to do with as he wishes.

Now, this thread is about the HST model so please keep it on topic.
