Gaming Digital Combat Simulator Thread

Well, I sure won't have anything against it coming out soon! :)

Well, the press release is from late November last year, the conflict among the development team happened in January. I am not sure currently, which information is the correct one. We will find out on Sunday.

By what I can tell, there is little indication that a release in March was impossible at any stage, but the number of milestone reports is also extremely low for a crowdfunded project.

Ooo, spring sale, time to pick up all the DCS modules I don't own!

Same here, although I only have funds for one at this point.

Decisions, decisions....hmmm.... the Mustang, the Huey, or the Black Shark? I just don't know.....

I think the Black Shark could be the best option currently for multiplayer sessions, next to the A-10C... seems to be pretty effective.

Whatever we decide to do in MP, I got myself the upgrade of the Ka-50 and FC3 in anticipation of the new Eagle flight model. :)

Meanwhile, the preliminary changelog for version 1.2.8 has been added: Link to ED Forums.

Bloody hell are the Flanker and the Eagle quick!

Still need to fix the bugs in the joystick configuration for the F-15C...

Which bugs? I only did a quick spin today, and it seemed fine.

Only here locally... still need to get a setup that works with the HOTAS. The initial one was a bit incompatible.

Hmmm, maybe I'll pick up FC3...although I feel a little silly buying FC3 after already having bought the A-10A and the Su-25...

I would feel half as silly for having got only the A-10A, but twice as silly again for the fact that the Lock On installation requirement has been dropped for Flaming Cliffs without my noticing. This changes things a bit, as I think Combined Arms and Flaming Cliffs are two fundamental DCS expansions that should be acquired.

and in 5 days, the MiG-21 will be out.

Hopefully so. This looks like it is going to be DCS splash-out month! :woohoo:

Actually, I expected it to be easier than it is due to the counter rotating rotors.
I always ended up as a pile of metal when trying to fly it...

I bought FC3 and the P-51 today, and am redownloading the Ka-50 to give it a second chance.

Do we have red P-51s in our MP mission? I'd like to try... something... :stirpot:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So I'm finally having some planes in the hangar that can climb properly...

If someone wants a challenge to beat, here's an AIM-120 at an "apogee" of 200106 feet...

Hell, YEAH!

Now we're cooking with gas.

No worries, haven't flown it yet. Just wanted to see this fine SU-33 on Admiral Kuznetsov's deck. There's a radar employment conversion unit coming up (more manual reading!) and a long check and modification of the key-map before I venture to try it out. Too tired right now to start that business.

That will be all, for this particular sale. Waiting on that MIG-21.

So, had some time this morning and decided to take something a little more familiar out for a quick test sortie or two; the Su-25, after some preliminary key-board rearrangement to make it as similar as possible to the T version's keys. Okay, I take back a few things I may have said about it; it is fun to fly and the performance and agility is much better than the T's.

And that is where it ends. Targeting the AS-10 and AS-14 is a chore. Not quite as bad as the A-10A's quirky AGM-65 target acquisition, but I believe that "primitive" avionics are being rather faithfully recreated. There is a need to manually keep the laser reticule on the target after firing the missile. It drifts a bit, as you close distance, especially if you don't maintain perfect co-linearity. As there is no HUD and no image acquisition lock on like the Shkval, this feature is most probably correct. It has the drawback of making you "fixate" on the target, and get some "tunnel vision syndrome" that seriously cuts into your situational awareness (less opportunity to swivel head around looking for threats, something that the Shkval frees you up to do), with expected results if SAMs are around.

First Quick Mission, anti-armor with no enemy SAMs. Back home safely, five ground kills, and couple of holes in the aircraft.

Second Quick Mission, similar scenario but with a medium level of enemy SAMs and AAA: Resulted in me flying in formation with my own empennage during one of those target fixated runs.

I would say it is a good COIN aircraft, to be used strictly in co-operation with ground units in a low enemy anti-air environment (like a guerilla war). I expect attrition would be high, otherwise.

And that is all I have time for, today.

If anyone is interested, there is a flash sale at ED DCS atm, 70% off everything, though I already have enough with FC3 to get my teeth into until the next one!

Just picked up the Black Shark 2 for $11.99 USD. Know what I'll be doing once my daughter goes to bed tonight...

Any suggestions on which title to buy if I have never played this series?
It like like Flaming Cliffs is designed as a good starter.

(Uh oh, looks like I only have a few minutes...)
(Although Steam has a lesser sale for another 21 hours)

FC3 has the aircraft with a "simplified" avionics model like the default Su-25T, while all the more expensive "dedicated" models (P-51, A-10C, Mi-8, Ka-50 and UH-1) are full-blown-every-single-switch-works depth. If unsure grab FC3 to get a taste and decide if you want to get one of the other modules, which have quite a bit of a learning curve and in some cases (A-10C) REQUIRE a many-buttoned joystick.

Thanks for the info.
I just bought A-10C from the website.
I think I'll buy FC3 from Steam, if I can use the A-10C code in Steam. I have had $20 sitting in my Steam wallet for a while.

I don't currently have a joystick with me, but I'll be all over that A-10C in about a month.

Tempted to get the A-10C, but it's only 30% off. Better to wait for a bigger sale, maybe? IIRC the Christmas sale was a better deal.

To say nothing of my restricted free time...

If you've never played DCS before at all, I'd encourage you to just download the free DCS World and run through the Su-25T campaign to see if it's the sort of thing you'd be interested it.

But you already spent money, so nevermind.
