Piper, why is it that almost invariably, even when one downloads and installs all the required add-ons, there still are missing meshes and or missing config files? I downloaded and installed every addon that was required to run the chapman missions and I still get CTD's and the diagnostic telling me not to run these missions. It really takes the fun out of orbiter when you have have to be a detective and track down all the missing stuff that the designer of the addon failed to do.

I agree to a point but only to a point.

Perhaps there needs to be "Challenge" packs made for these situations?

The only problems I had when setting up my installation for the Chapman Challenges were with the launch vehicles themselves. These are not made by Piper so I think this criticism is a bit unfair.

EDIT: BTW, what meshes/config files are/were you missing?

unfair?

I get a "blc1 arms" no vessel class config found.

And why unfair?!?! He states right in his addon download that these other addons are neccessary for chapman probes to work. So did he check to see if the scenarios would work using his instructions? That doesn't seem unfair to me. I only wasted the last 3 hours trying to get them to work. Is that unfair that I wasted my time tonite? And by the way that wasn't the only error I got, in fact I am going to trash the whole special install of orbiter I made just for this situation cause hardly any of the scenarios in the "required" addons run either. I am not an expert at orbiter but I certainly know how to install addons and run scenarios. I use the orbiter diagnostic and when I installed the chapman probes and the required addons, I got about 40 lines of missing meshes and don't run this scenario messages. So why don't the addon developers debug these things?

I assume that all the scenarios run on his install. If they didn't he wouldn't realise it.

If you are having trouble using the included scenarios, make your own using the launches that you have. They are not that hard to make at all.

Lets start a new thread and try to fix your problem.

Looking at the pages for all the required addons, there sure are a lot of them. However, if you just want to fly the probe, you don't actually need the Atlas 5 and Soyuz series to be able to fly it using the Delta IV Heavy Versatile (which doesn't require any other addons to work). Just use that and don't even install the other 2 launchers + their dependencies if you don't want them. I just did, here's how.

1. I made a clean install of orbiter by unzipping orbiter060929_base.zip into its own folder.
2. I installed Spacecraft2.dll and Multistage2.dll (I had a folder with all the different spacecraft.dll files, so I just copied all files in that folder into my orbiter folder)
3. Installed the Delta IV Heavy Versatile.
4. Installed the Chapman Probes addon.
5. Ran the scenario Chapman Orbiter/Chapman Launch (Delta IVH). It works.

After doing that, I installed the addon into my main Orbiter install, with which I use the JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler, by just putting the Delta IV Heavy Versatile and Chapman Probes addons into their own folders inside the MODS folder (I already had spacecraft3.dll, etc, installed), then enabling both of them in JSGME. It works in my main install too with lots of other addons.

I get a "blc1 arms" no vessel class config found.

This is an error you get with either the Soyuz launchers, or the Baikonur base they are launched from. If you want to launch a Chapman probe on top of a Soyuz launcher, you have to install both of these first. They can be found at http://orbiter.mustard-fr.com/. Pay very close attention to there own install instructions.

And why unfair?!?! He states right in his addon download that these other addons are neccessary for chapman probes to work. So did he check to see if the scenarios would work using his instructions? Of course I checked them prior to releasing them. I try and take great care in making sure that there are not any problems with my addons, and that all the required files are included, or links provided for them. Of course, I sometimes make mistakes, forget a file or instruction, I'm only human, and I try and correct them whenever someone finds a mistake. And I most certainty do not appreciate people blaming my for "wasting their time." I do this in my free time, for my enjoyment, and for the enjoyment of others.

So please, relax, chill-out, and drop the attitude.

If you are having trouble with the scenarios, and have 40 lines of missing meshes, then it sounds like the problem lies with how you installed the Soyuz and Baikonur addons, since none of my addons have 40 meshes in them.

It was late I was frustrated.....

I appologize to any and all that I irritated for my own ineptitude. I will try the suggestions.

Sincerely, Atuhalpa.

One thing to remember is that you get the support you pay for.

I feel so foolish..............

Wrong Baikonur was the problem. But now that I have installed all of the addons PROPERLY, I still get three missing .ini messages from the diagnostic check: chapman launch DeltaIVH missing;K-LC-37-T7.ini,K-LC-37-MSS.ini and K-LC-37.ini. These three are missing and therefore one of the launch scenarios is invalid. Any ideas?

Humbled and well rested today, Atuhalpa.

I have solved my own problem gentlemen. I downloaded LC 37 and now I have a very clean install.
