Ashes - England v Australia - 2009

Hey, thanks for starting this thread. We can now have a nice colonials vs the mother country dust-up :P

The singing may last a while at Cardiff since we have no spinner. And in your favour, this English side looks to be more settled than in recent memory. I see you have learnt from the Aussies the advantages of opening with two left-handers.

Ha, maybe not. 22/1. Now I'm singing - C'mon Aussie, c'mon, c'mon... C'mon Aussie, c'mon, c'mon...

Should be fun, only five weeks to go.

What A nice thread for my 1000th post

BASH 'EM LADS!!!

GO AUSTRALIA!!!

Congratulations on your digits!

I think you're going to be dissapointed with the cricket though:P

2/67 is quite all right :P

The Chaser had a sketch involving the ashes, as soon as I find a link I will post it...

To be honest they won the 2005 series, but that was a one off...

336 for 7 at close of play. Evenly balanced I would say.

Hmm, I rule it slightly in England's favour. At lot will depend on Swann, I think.

Very nice play from both teams.
But im sorry to the Poms becuase the Aussies are going to win, we're better at every sport, except soccer.
Not least because people still insist on not using its proper name :P

Oh, I didn't know the Australians did use the proper name. Good to know we have some company.;)
I must admit, pretty much only the hard core fans called it football before 2005, when the Australian Soccer Association changed its name to Football Federation Australia. The old name still lingers in parts.

It's an interesting fact that any country who calls 'football' anything like 'soccer' is automatically not very good at the game.

Well we are getting better :P

We even have a world cup bid

And we do want the world to be good at something, Australia can't be great in all sports :P

Wow, Broad and Anderson took a pounding. A good start for Aus, Katich is looking in fine form and his wagon wheel shows it, but this is not over by any stretch. The spinners bowled well today and I am still calling this slightly in England's favour.

First Ashes Test, Cardiff (day three, stumps):
England 435 v Australia 479-5

Usual thing, slight improvement for Australia...

Yes, it looks like the Crystal Ball agrees with you. I was hoping for a faster scoring rate, something like 530 at close of play would have given Australia a better chance at a win. We will likely get there but will it be too late?
