What's an Aries capsule?

Not sure - Ares is the rocket, Orion the capsule and Aries the lander. His answer gets me appetized for a well-mixed cocktail.

I thought the lander was called Altair (calling it Aries would really cause much confusion, I believe).

Ah, really... Aries was the lander in 2001.

Which again proves how much the new architecture is already doomed. Apollo quoted Jules Verne!

Yeah meant Orion, launched from Aries, or whatever you want to call it at various types and points along its mission.
The whole Constipation program makes me want to have a really strong drink...

ARES!!! There's no such thing called Aries in the Constellation program... ;)

NASA chief Griffin bucks Obama's transition team

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/space/orl-nasa1108dec11,0,2470755.story

NASA Administrator Mike Griffin is not cooperating with President-elect Barack Obama's transition team, is obstructing its efforts to get information and has told its leader that she is "not qualified" to judge his rocket program, the Orlando Sentinel has learned.

And this week, Garver told a meeting of aerospace representatives in Washington that "there will be change" to NASA policy and hinted that Obama would name a new administrator soon, according to participants.

It is never a good idea, to tell your customer, that your customer does not know how to judge the product...

Don't blame him. The guy's gone berserk because of despair. I understand him.

I don't. It is not his job to be despaired. If he is exhausted doing the job, he can resign.

If you have an economic crisis knocking at the door, it is not good presenting your institution as the one, which has no reason for being spared from funding cuts - even if the truth is like that. You have to sell your product, and a NASA administrator is paid for exactly this task. He does not have to design the vehicles, he has to ensure the design teams work effective and the results can be sold to the tax payer.

After all: Instead of cutting NASAs budget by 5%, the new executive can also just cut the DoD budget by 0.25%. Or 0.5% and give the rest of the money to NASA.

That NASA has to suffer, when politics dragged the car into the mud, is no constant. Spaceflight has gone a very long way from the propaganda tool of the 1960s.

Honestly... I would say about 10% - 20% of the members on this forum could get a better idea as saying "I don't cooperate with you, I only want your money and you have no authorization to judge what the money is spent for."

He's going to get himself "blacklisted" by the Administration. No cushy corporate board job for him once he gets fired from NASA.

You are entirely right IF it's the 5% budget cut which is at the stake. But I believe Griffins just knows more than we do.

That is an authority obeying tautology. I also know more than Griffin.

The question is just: Does this knowledge matter?;)

This angers me. I'm with Griffen. He must hate people coming along with no experience & telling him how to do things:facts:

If Obama names an administrator that cancels Project Constellation, he's lost my support!

I should say, from reading into this thread further, that in Britain, "Ares" is spelled "Aries".

As an Englishman & a Gentleman, and a speaker of the language of Shakespeare, I refuse to acknowledge the word "Ares":P

If this is a problem for him, he should never have became NASA administrator. Or engineer at all. Engineers are hired by people who have no experience for doing something, which requires this experience. By people who are rich enough for affording engineers, but who also did not get rich by wasting money.

Also, it is not about telling him how to do things, but to ask him why he needs so much money for it, and already plans to ask for more.

If Obama names an administrator that cancels Project Constellation, he's lost my support!

So, it isn't your money that is spent?

But anyway, the chance that Constellation is canceled is minimal. Even though this would be the best chance to get rid of it.

Griffin is not my authority. What's your source about the planned 5% cut?

Was just a number I threw into the discussion. :P 5% makes it easier to do math with it, when comparing the NASA budget to the DoD budget.

Also, 5% is pretty much a good maximum, considering the predictions that the USA economy will shrink in the next year by 2-4%.

So, in Shakespeare's language, these two Gentlemen are identical?
