Would it be possible to program UMMU's to due certain tasks like the cars in UCGO? It probably wouldn't be too difficult. It would be cool to have the UMMU's walk over to a pile of cargo, pick one up, walk to a ship, and set the cargo down. So that way you could be inside the ship getting ready to go to orbit.

Just an idea. Tell me what you guys think.

I can imagine an add-on which controls all UMMU keys. I've got no idea whether it's actually possible though.

Time-programmed motion is possible by cheating the API and moving the Ummu effortlessly in a module plugin (not that I'm interested in that now).

In my opinion, the problem is that Ummu's don't use thrusters like most "vessel objects" do... From there the idea of an autopilot becomes quite complex (as says Wishbone, you'll have to "cheat" the API, which can give unexpected results).

Edit : they don't use thrusters for walking, in space they behave like other vessels...

I'd be more worried if my Ummu's developed strange propulsive tendencies on the ground (e.g. an oxygen propulsive vent on the Moon)...

I don't think you guys understand me. I'm talking about a series of waypoints that the Ummu will follow, just like adding waypoints for a car in ucgo.

A UMmu that folows another one would be cool.
Than you could bring your whole crew freom place to place, just by doing it with one of them.

Might be possible with an add-on, but will only work flawlessly if put directly into the UMMU code. Does anybody know what Dan's doing these days? I'd at least have expected a short update on the arrow and the UMMU HUD-issues for 2010p1. Then again, he always works in bursts. Like, even taking a month or three off work to make an add-on...

I see no reason why the waypoint system used in UCGO cars couldn't be adapted to UMMUs, but then again I am no programmer.

As for HAL9001's idea, that seems much simpler, make a program that essentially says, look here, go forward, keep looking. (well there is no programming language like that, if there was I'm sure we'd all be programmers!)
