2014 World Cup

Well... Papastathopoulos won't have to cancel his wedding. Congratulations to Costa Rica for going to the quarter-finals.

Yet another drama between the underdogs.....not exactly the highest quality game but what a thriller! :hotcool:

The Germans and the French next up. I can't wait.....

BTW this World Cup now reaches 145 goals - the same as the total amount scored in 2010. It looks like WC2014 may goes down as one of the best ever.... :10sign::11sign:

More flying dutchmen.

As long as it wasn't Xabi Alonso in place of that flag we're good.

Stunning day today, congratulations to both winners and losers, all teams did great today.

Germany without Mats Hummels, which will be a major loss for the defense.

For the moment Algeria seems dangerous. They play well.

Not sure how to rate them. On one hand, they are individually very good and have a very effective tactic. On the other hand, you can easily see that their tactic has very little variation. Once the Germans get closer to the goal than x, you can already see their offensive moving a bit forward and opening a hole between their defense and the midfield, waiting for a long pass from the defense. The German defense is a bit too far forward there and easily overrun - and too little effective in the offense.

Luckily, we have Neuer.

At all times or almost, when I observe the position of the Algerian players on the field their game is very compact with distances from each other very regular in attacks as and especially in defense. Does this play will be effective against German players also very organized ? Passes in both teams are good. Beautiful play.

This match is probably the most extraordinary football match I have ever seen. So quick in the attack from both sides and so many saves!

Goal for Germany! by Schürrle after a great play by Müller :)

This was a beautiful game, not just in the sense that both teams played well, but also that both teams played fair. There weren't attempts to stall from the germans after the 1:0, they even remained offensive and kept things interesting, and shouting matches were practically nonexistant. Also great refing this time around.
I'm a bit sad for the Algerians, it was plain that they poured just about every ounce of strength they had into this game, but the germans just had the longer breath in the end (I guess the 1:0 helped keeping up their spirits).

The statistic of yesterdays game: Neuer had 19 touches of the ball outside the box. That's almost half as much as Cristiano Ronaldo had during his game against Germany (47). In total Neuer had 59 touches during the game. And a much better tackling statistic.

I really think the wrong goalkeeper got the "Man of the Match" award yesterday - Neuer already got declared the second-best libero/sweeper in German football history after Franz Beckenbauer for his performance.

Ugh.

Did I just said "extraordinary" yesterday? Today has topped that.

What. A. Game. USA beaten, but only just - against the Belgians who have shot up to 40 times. And of course had Chris Wondolowski didn't mistouch in the 93rd minute....
