News 195mph Super Typhoon about to hit the Philippines

Authorities are now speaking of 10,000 people killed, and that's probably going to rise. Coastal areas have been destroyed to 80%.

It seems that the Super Typhoon is deviating to North Vietnam, Hanoï is threatened.

This is the town of Guiuan on Samar island (11°02′N 125°44′E), very close to the point where the typhoon made the initial landfall:

Due to the almost complete destruction the fate of many of its 50000 residents (as well as many other towns and villages in central Philippines) is currently not yet known.

Glad it missed my city (Davao). We're about 400 miles down south of the path. The city I used to work in (Cebu) had moderate damage. But the towns and villages directly in the path of the storm...I can't even talk about it...it's just like they were nuked.

that image is eerily similar to the images of the 2004 tsunami aftermath. I'm not a religious person, but may their soul rest in peace.

On another note, my country have decided to send aid over. Our ambassador have specifically requested some very essential logistics to be sent over in priority, which are antibiotics, generator, and drinking water ground facilities (something that can be put up quickly to purify water, our army is loaded with that), and also ready-to-eat-instant-food (sorry, I don't know the correct translation for that). It is also kind of odd to see that our overconsumption and overproduction of antibiotics actually brings us the potential to help a neighbour in need, but then again, anything that can help.

Your country's aid is much appreciated Eccentrus, as well as aid from other countries like the United States, Japan, Russia (sorry I can't remember other countries that have already sent aid/help/rescue/doctors). Thank you so much.

I am mixed emotions to describe what is happening in the affected areas. There are reports from citizens there describing scenes from what we are so familiar of already, in science fiction post-apocalyptic stories--total breakdown of order. Our army is there, but they are concentrating their peace and order efforts on one city alone (Tacloban), yet that island has innumerable number of towns villages, and they are NOT being looked after. It's surreal, I mean I play games like DayZ or other survival type games, but this is the real deal--and it can really happen to me, considering this country is like a firing squad alley for typhoons.

Just to give you some idea of the size if it was over Europe.
Some good news,
The President of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino, says the death toll from Friday's typhoon may be lower than first thought.
In an interview with CNN, he said the number of 10,000 killed was "too high" and the figure was more likely up to 2,500.
