ORBITER-FORUM will be temporarily closed at 2026-07-23 18:00 UTC while we complete some OF maintenance tasks. The amount of downtime is expected to take up to one hour, but probably less.
I believe that it is because Shuttle Fleet dosn't have engine gimbaling. It instead uses several invisible RCS thusters for ascent attitude control and they are unable to contol the off nominal thrust. In any real engine out, the remaining engines are gimbaled to account for lost engine. This...
With a crushable landing gear you delete the deceleration systems from the vehicle (ie breaks, wheels, and for the most part standard gas or liquid filled shock absobers). The gear it self can be made from a honeycomb material. Also the gear can "auto deploy" using springs when the doors are...
Sweet. I created a bad Easter island for my West Coast Space Shuttle operations but this much better.
Trivia note: Easter Island was the "TAL" abort landing site for the shuttle if it had ever actualy flew out of VAFB.
Depending on the down mass, chute assisted would require a huge chute. Look at the X-38, it would have had a giant parafoil at 687 square meters. If the craft isn't reusable then the landing gear can be one-time use, crushable gear. The point is to bring the payloads back in a stable...
If the vessel is config based you can add your own attachment points.
OR
Just add this to the config file of the Spotlight:
; === Docking ports ===
BEGIN_DOCKLIST
0 -0.214 -0.042 0 -1 0 0 0 1
END_DOCKLIST
That will create a docking port at the same location as the attachment.
Brian, this is awesome.
I was playing around with it and attached some flood lights to the default ISS. When combined with the shuttle PLB lights from Shuttle Fleet it looks just like the stuff I'm watching right now on NASA TV. Very nice!
EDIT:On a related note, does anyone know...
Still haven't tested it with UCD but I would have to agree with Dave, the built-in attachments are very easy to use once you get the hang of them. They are discussed in the manual but I can help you figure them out. They are what I use for my station building project started a couple of years...
I know that UCD doesn't perform well with vehicles that shift their center of gravity but I don't think that would have an impact on the AP. Could you post the scenario that you are using?
Also, the AP is working in the default Fleet scenarios, correct?
The auto pilot that comes with Shuttle Fleet is discussed in the manual.
As far as Thorton's countdown, why do you want to change it? If you are running the scenario as it should be, the liftoff times are historicaly accurate. If you are adapting it to use in your oun scenarios I would take a...
If you are using 4.7, the arm deploy is now SHIFT+X. The manual is updated in the System Control Keys section on page 20 but not on the RMS pages 15-18. You can also use the ARM STATUS button on the RMS dialog (which is opened by pressing CTRL+SPACE).

Space Shuttle Endeavour is finally back home after a check up and refit out at the Palmdale Shuttle Factory. She was sent to her birthplace after landing at Edwards AFB at the end of STS-210 in Janurary. She arrived at the Shuttle Landing Facility piggy-backing on the SCA. Her...
Also, isn't compitition good for the industry. To me this idea is a little out of left field, but I hope that it causes other companies to look at similar "frankenstein" rockets as a way to fill the gap. But like Urwumpe said, such vehicles should only be a temporary "gap filler".
One problem you may be having that is keeping you from maintaining the AOA is you might be coming in too step and at too high Vertical Speed (VS).
Some things to consider:
Find an old version of the Fleet and watch AFCS in 2006 to see exatly how it is done.
Start using Shuttle Fleet...
One problem that I through into the ring, is NASA and Congress is looking for the next long term program and rocket to suit. The problem, as many have stated, they are designing for so far into the future (for markets that aren't conceivable today) that the HLV will be unsistainable until that...
There was a post about this a couple of years ago. In your eclipse scenario, place a vessel (like a DG) on the moon. During the eclipse the DG will turn the different colors and go to it's shadowed state but the Moon itself won't. If I remember correctly the member that originally posted...
