Bid for world land-speed record

I didn't know there was such a category, 100+mph is going some. Always related wind speed to sailing craft, that would get you across the local ferry in a short time!

That is really getting along!

I tried land sailing once in Tasmania and it was quite exhilarating, especially the thought of the hard ground waiting for you when you had an "off". The most noticeable thing is how drag does not build as quickly as on water, which just adds to the excitement.

For comparison, the water sailing record is 48.7knots (56mph).

EDIT:
"Wind-powered cars are the way of the future," he said.
Ha! He should try driving along George St in a howling southerly.

Yes, mercy of the elements. They aren't giving up though

The Greenbird team is now preparing for ice practice runs early next year in Canyon Ferry Reservoir, Montana, US, followed by a run at the world record for a wind-powered ice craft which is currently 84mph (135km/h).

world record for a wind-powered ice craft

Geez, there's world records for everything.

Anyone want to help me in my bid to break the world record, I'm thinking of going for the fastest ever human powered two wheeled tarmac craft with roadrunner painted on it.
Positions open in my team:
Someone who can paint.
Someone who can make roadrunner noises.
Someone who can fix my bike.

Even if you fail, you get to travel to fascinating places, and meet interesting people.
Wish I'd thought of it.

The normal landing speed record is over the sound barrier and the first guy to do it was a RAF pilot fitting huh? back in the 1910s the speed record was around 23mph. Good luck for these guys.

Gosh thats scary, ten years ago, seems like last year.

Wonder why there haven't been any recent attempts?

Also, with the global economy as it is, finding the funding and sponsorship within the private sector will be hard. Especially considering that a land speed record is just that, and nothing else. As impressive as breaking the record would be, it wouldn't bare and scientific fruition.

203km/h, that is really smoking! Especially when your bum is that close to the ground.

Indeed, and they are after the ice record next. Frostbite?
