Alright, I was flipping the channels, as I hit Nick a Commercial come on for a Moonlight or something, and it was video of Mission Control, with Dora the explorer on the Video screens. Well, that Video from mission Control is token off when Columbia was destroyed, Charley Hobaugh can be seen as Capcom, Leroy Cain as Flight Director. Its when Charley was calling 'UHF comm Check", to me thats upsetting, I know some people may say they didn't notice. But heck, shouldn't the hint be 'Communications were lost with Space Shuttle Columbia, Flight Controllers have declared a Contingency." when they were listening. Thats kinda obvious to me. Personally, what they did was tasteless.
I would like to here your thoughts.

I have to agree, I think it is taking away from a tragic incident and adding a "fun" theme to it.

The fact that anyone would ever let that be aired is another story, the fact that network news airs bombing raids, or even the death of terrorists on national television is bad enough.

I think thats why I prefer to get my news from the internet or on paper, I have lost faith with the "idiot box" It only serves to let me watch the Indy races or F1 races.

It seems that movie is copying the book "Life as we knew it", where a meteor hits the moon, knocking it closer to Earth

Ya, its tasteless what they did. I mean, 7 good people died.

I hadn't seen this. Anyone have a link to the video? Doesn't seem to show up in Google Vids or Youtube.

Isn't it like "Go diego" or something? My brother watches this crap periodically:dry:
Yeah, it's tasteless.

I laughed at it before hearing the STS-107 dialog, because of all the orbital mechanics problems...

I should watch that and write down all the mistakes they made, and then send them to whoever made it, complaining that it's tasteless and uneducational.

If you want to get your ass sued by a multi-million dollar coorperation
(P.S. pardon my french)

This reminds me of when I bought a video about the Continental Express ATR flying out of Newark. The camera showed scenery of the Twin Towers, which left me feeling morose and depressed. I'm not saying it was the fault of the makers of the video (it was shot in 1999 I believe), but still... It would be nice if people were more careful about this kind of thing.

The makers of the Dora show (a kids show) probably aren't smart enough to know what NASA footage they are using. They see it as just some more misson control shots. I think if they knew what event they were using video from they probably would not have used it. This would be like using real footage of 9/11 to make an action movie or something.

If they get smart and place Dora and Diego on the side of a Challenger Liftoff video then thats also like placing 9/11 video. However, if they were smart enough to hear 'Communications were lost with Space Shuttle Columbia' and 'Search and rescue teams are on the search for columbia' Stupidity is not an excuse in my opinion.

Maybe everyone should write to Nickelodeon and ***** about the tastelessness of the ad, if they get enough complaints, they'll pull it. I personally haven't seen it, but it sounds about as tasteless as it gets.

I don't think anyone would ever remove an ad for those reasons. But I think the episode may have already aired meaning the ad isn't showing anymore anyways.
I agree with Reverend on this though. Someone probably found some footage of mission control and put it in the ad not realizing what mission it was from.

It's one thing if the event is broadcast as news on a news channel, it's quite another thing if someone uses the footage to advertise for a kid's show. I don't have a problem with showing mission control on the news as the tragedy was unfolding, I have a serious problem with thoughtlessly using it in a kid's advert. How many shots of terrorists being killed do you know of being used in a children's show? My tally is 0, if you're not counting palestinian indoctrination cartoons.

That really disgusting. Told about this to my father and he believes that they really don't care about what the footage came from. all they care about though is money

I saw this last night. I told my fiance, and she was as angered as I was. Well, not angered, but bothered. And she doesn't take offense easily.

Anyone have the email address for like customer service or feedback for the Dora show? I can't access their website because I don't have flash on this computer. I'd like to send them a short message because the more I think about this the more tasteless it seems. I know this is extremely unlikely, but 12 kids lost a parent on Columbia, and I just can't imagine what it would be like if one of them happened to see this while watching what they thought was a "safe" channel. That's not even counting the kids of missions controllers and other astronauts who grieved with the families who lost someone. Granted, that was 5 years ago and I'm sure most of them are grown to the point that they don't watch nick anymore, but the possibility that they might see it anyway still bothers me.

I'll do some searching tonight and see what I can find. In the meantime... I don't suppose anyone's seen this on YouTube or whatnot? I can't seem to find it, and given my lack of TV watching in general (and children's shows in particular), I haven't seen it yet. I'd rather like to, though, if only to have some comments ready when I send my own email.
